I agree with you. I prefer this new look to the swath of gray.
Agree. The gray block was an uninspired choice.

I find it curious the ICE version (true of current models) has the lower air intake for "brake cooling" as described in the video, but the SE does not. Do we not have friction brakes on our cars? I guess even the weak regenerative braking takes a lot away from needing to use friction brakes, thus practically eliminating heat issues.
It looks like they used the non-S front and the S hood on the SE.Thanks. So compared to the S, the SE has 1) horizontal bar or bars instead of honeycomb in top 3rd, 2) inverted trapezoid in middle 3rd, and 3) no square brake ducts in lower 3rd.

Looking at these has me rethinking. I might keep the chrome trim but just black out grille and boot handle. It's interesting that they chose to black out all the chrome except the beltline. I was thinking about doing the exact opposite but now I'm less confident that it would look good...
So, based on the video and the teaser page, it looks like a partial list of changes would be...
EDIT: And - @insightman 's mortal enemy is still sitting there on the hood. (I hope you know that is good-natured ribbing!)
I like the understated bonnet stripes on the new SE--they don't distract from the all-important scoop. From the video, it looks like the sport antenna may be another option made standard.EDIT: And - @insightman 's mortal enemy is still sitting there on the hood. I think that's the lighting around to make the amazing bonnet scoop stand out even moreGreen Car Reports has more photos of the blue SE. But what is this? A lighted hood scoop? Probably just the lighting in the photograph. The art director must have told the photographer, "You've got to punch up that hood scoop and power bump a lot more! How else will people know this car is fast?"

The power bump on an electric car is as stupid as a fake hood scoop on an electric car. Are we supposed to think the electric motor is so big and powerful, they had to modify the shape of the hood? Today, as I was clearing the snow off my gorgeous pre-2022 base MINI Cooper hood, I again admired it as an excellent example of automotive art. They made the SE's hood worse than before!
In all seriousness I wonder if they are a real option. I prefer the old school stripes more.I like the understated bonnet stripes on the new SE--they don't distract from the all-important scoop. From the video, it looks like the sport antenna may be another option made standard.
Yeah, you're right. The overhead lighting hits the horizontal, flat part of the hood scoop (which I don't have) and makes it look brighter. Similarly, the photographer used lighting to add shadows to make the power bump (which I do have) stand out more.I think that's the lighting around to make the amazing bonnet scoop stand out even more![]()
That bump sticks out at for me as well. I think I dislike it more than the scoop, because it's an ugly detail that looks really bad and undermines the electrical-ness of the car, whereas the scoop you can almost sort of justify as a cosmetic choice. Having that bump is as bad as Porsche calling their EV Taycan a "turbo".The power bump on an electric car is as stupid as a fake hood scoop on an electric car.
Some like it, some don't and that is fine. Some people like body kits, some don't. I personally like the fact that it is instantly recognisable as a Cooper S. If changing it makes you happier, then that too is great. Matt Shumaker changed the front grill to a standard Cooper S one - and that is great. So long as you enjoy your MINI, it doesn't matter what you do to it in my opinion.
Lane departure warning seems kind of weak, and losing the fog lights is no good in my mind (I live in an area where fog is frequent). Maybe the "bad weather" lighting is next-generation and does away with the need for fog lights. I wonder if the new front end means rally lights could be mounted.
The blue one in Torrey's post is an SE, it would be weird if they didn't sell that color after advertising it.
Based on the pictures there appear to be two different blues, but that could just be an illusion. The 4 door looks like a more traditional "starlight" blue whereas the SE with the two tone roof looks more like an "ocean" blue. A little lighter and with more green. The Dutch system seems to only have one blue, but options might be different for the US market.
