2019 Clarity Plug In Release Date?

One thing to keep in mind is the $7,500 Tax Credit is definitely available for 2018 purchases (and to the leasing company if you lease). While it is unlikely Congress will eliminate the Credit, Trump has expressed his desire to do so.

Yeah, the same guy who said he will provide the best and cheapest healthcare.

He will say whatever he wants to placate his base but reality is quite different as the past two years have proven.
BTW, GM is already at the full 200K units sold and pulling the subsidy is not going to hurt them (which is what he wants to do)

I wouldn't worry about the credit disappearing any time soon.
 
If you can claim a more efficient A/C or furnace will pay for itself over time, you can claim that for a [PH]EV.
I could never claim a PHEV will pay for itself over time, not with CT electric costs vs current gas costs (and even quite a bit higher). A standard hybrid will always make more economic sense since it costs less. A/C or furnace paying for itself no problem.
 
UPDATE: I made my rounds in reaching out to Bay Area Honda dealerships regarding the 2019 Honda Clarity Plug In and pretty much got the same response except for one.

"We don't have any more information. I know the 2018's didn't come out until April 2018 so I don't know if it will be closer to then when we get them in. As of now, we don'y have anymore information."

Not the response I wanted to hear and I hope he is wrong. Disappointed.
 
The 2018 Clarity was available and sold to the public in December 2017 and each month thereafter. I picked up my Clarity in early March 2018. Hogwash if the dealer is saying the 2018 Clarity came out in April 2018.

I found an announcement that of the lease rates dated early April, and reviews in the June timeframe. I think December is a bit early. I am not too concerned that we've seen no 2019 announcement yet; I'll start to worry in 2-3 months.

I think I figured out the disconnect. I believe this is a U.S. release and sale to the public in December 2017 vs. When Canada were able to purchase the 2018 Clarity. For sure the U.S. public could get the 2018 Clarity in December 2017.

Here's my question: On the last line, they show the 2019 as having a UDDS AER of ~71 miles and a highway of ~60. Can someone more familiar with the California procedures opine--are these numbers consistent with the 2018 (the paperwork for the 2018 @ https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/pcldtmdv/2018/honda_pc_a0230696_1d5_s3-20_tz_phev.pdf does not have the electric range information)?

IIRC the Clarity was released on December 1st in the U.S. and on December 15th in Canada. I spent 4 weeks researching the car and then bought it on January 19th.
 
I bought mine in January 2018. It was sitting in the showroom in Knoxville, Tennessee. (of course with traction battery completely discharged)

UDDS is the city cycle, which is best for hybrids. This is the best you will do (and similar what I am able to get in Clarity in warm city cycle driving without climate). I suspect it is the same range on the new car. It very much looks like they sized the battery for 1 credit ;)

I remember Volt fans saying how they suspected the Volt would have an even larger battery next iteration, but it was easy to see that GM sized the battery to maximize CARB credits at the time (up to 2 for it in 2016/2017, but less now) and not for any other reason. The maximum for TZEV has dropped since, then, but 1 is still not bad. Clarity is going to run same course as Volt, likely last 1 generation and they already know how many they are going to sell. However, I hope they carry the technology into other vehicles that might actually sell in large volume.

Same is happening with China. All the 50 km range PHEVs are to meet China's laws on what is considered a PHEV (it has to have 50 km range). I think most PHEVs will settle on that range and not more. The Clarity stands alone in that regard now that the Volt is going away, but my hunch is you will have 50 km PHEVs and then BEVs.

I don't know why you say this when you can get a Clarity for less than the Honda Hybrid if you include fed and state rebates. My friend just got a Touring Clarity for $30,100 which in Mass comes down to $20,100 after rebates. That is almost the same as a Honda Fit!!!!

Yep I was looknig at the honda accord hybrids when I found out about the Clarity... its a no brainer to buy it over the accord since it comes standard with nice features like sensing + heated seats :). Even year or two old accords were more expensive overall.

When and where did your friend buy it? Curious to compare numbers; bought the car for the exact reason you mentioned.
