I am the original owner of a 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV. The car currently has around 160k miles. It has been trouble-free, mostly highway HV mode driving. I have learned that I prefer to save electric for lower speed driving.
I damaged the car a couple years ago. I high-planed in mountain driving, crunched the front end slightly, causing the DRL covers to slightly split from the frame. Most damage was to the right side. I secured the small panel with zip ties, looked bad! I am finally able to fix this, so I ordered the parts.
Installing the new cover was easy. The actual DRL was fine, so I moved that over. A few of the internals had to be replaced. All cosmetic in nature. Honda sells the panels, painted thankfully, for about $275. I was missing a number of the bottom connectors. It is easy to damage those, so I ordered in new ones. Unfortunately, I had to use the car before I had all the fasteners in place. At highway speed, the new cover succumed to wind pressure and was destroyed under the front tire at 60 mph. It was ripped clean off the car. I heard a loud bang, was unsure what it was. Drove another 15 miles before I discovered the horror.
Thankfully, I recalled where the incident happened. I returned to the area and found the cover on the side of the highway. The cover is not usable, but I think the DRL is ok. I was quite angry with myself, but now I have a gaping hole in the front of the car! Very frustrating.
My next move is to reorder the parts that were damaged. However, I have hit a blocker. The wires in the connector from the wiring harness to the DRL were cleanly ripped out. A mechanic advised that I need to locate a replacement pigtail and solder onto the wiring harness. I located the connector with the wires installed via findpigtails.com. Honda parts told me that Honda does not sell or issue part numbers for wire harness connectors. I never knew that!! But, $85 later, I have the part.
Here is where I need help, please. The new pigtail is identical, but the wires are not color coded as the harness wires are. It is a 3-pin male connector, with positions 1 and 3 marked. I think Red is power, black is ground, and the third control (?). Does anyone have a wiring diagram or schmatic? Trying to avoid a Techinfo subscription. I also have the original connector, not sure I should trust the insulation colors?
Thanks in advance for any info.
