    It must be cheaper that is strange. A possibility is the original motor is less expensive but can only be installed properly (and apparently sometimes improperly) in a factory setting.

    I have a Kona 2019.
    This sound started on my Kona almost a year ago. They replaced the reducer, they replaced the engine with the new one (E701), they rotated the reducer 180°. The noise is now stronger than ever. I'm selling it and i'll Buy a Tesla.

    I'm not wrong. Trust me, I wish I was. I track this across many different international forums and have checked a couple recently arrived cars myself on dealer lots.

    Here is a 2021 Kona on our own forum.

    In any case, the new motor revision is not exactly immune to the issue either. I've seen a couple cases of owners having the problem return even after a motor swap.

    You know there's nothing New in the E701/E711. Some of us are now ready for our third or fourth engine. Every 5-10 000km the noise comes back. The real solution would be to built a new drivetrain. That's the words of a Hyundai technician here in Québec.

    Given the drivetrain issues and risk of battery fires reported in the news, it will probably be difficult to sell a Kona EV at this time. You might be better off with legal action to get them to buy back the car. Luckily in the USA, we have very strict lemon laws in most states to protect consumers. As a result, many Kona and Niro owners have been offered a buyback without much hassle. Good luck.

    Just reporting back... I had the E711 installed in my Niro (for tapping noises) about 5 months ago, 5,000km ago.
    So far, the car has been perfect. I've noticed no tapping noises whatsoever.

    I fell back in love with my Niro!

    Kia dealer in NJ has ordered a new ev motor for my Niro ev 2019.
    Do folks know about how long it will be for motor to arrive from Korea?

    No way to know. Depends on current parts inventory and demand. I waited 43 days for the repair. Some waited 2-3 months.
    Based on quick google search, it looks like NJ has a 20 day out-of-service lemon law. If you don't get your repaired car back in that time, you can always ask KIA for a buyback.

    Well, I got my Niro back after 3 months, 2 days. Has the E711 motor now and no sounds. So, good I guess? Now the legal battle continues and I must decide whether to accept buyback (already offered) with Mach E and ID.4 close to market. Such incredible delay that I may be able to take buyback, buy another car, and re-up on the federal tax credit without a break, which is crazy.

    35,000KM in, and I am hearing the beginnings of a tapping sound again. Is this issue even resolvable? What is left for Kia to do for me? I already have a 711 motor.

    I'm also hearing it again, but I think that it has more to due with the change in temperature. The motor was changed when it was warmer so the problem might have still existed but wasn't prevalent because it is affected by temperature as well.

    I only had my motor replaced. I have not had my reduction drive replaced. Is it worth taking it back in to the dealer? I cannot believe the things I've had to do on a new $65,000 vehicle. If this was any item other than a car, I'd most definitely have returned this thing by now.

    Thanks, good to know. When I had the clicking issue, they first replaced my reduction drive (at 19,000 kms). After less than 400 kms, it started doing it again. They then replaced the motor, and has been good ever since. But only 5,000 kms so far with the new motor.

    Changing the gearbox in conjunction with the motor could solve most of the reported issues for a longer period (if the problem is associated with the input end), and in your case it worked for 5000 km. Keep in mind there has been another reported issue (with Kona Electric) with the same tapping noise from the load end (connecting the half shafts), same type of bearing issue.

    If you do take it in, I would suggest they check any play in that area as well.

    Thanks for that. Just to confirm, as my post above is not clear, I had the E711 motor for approximately 5,500km before I started hearing the tapping again.

    Lucky you! My buy-back letter expired because they took so long to fix my car and return it! Working to get another now.
