They can't shield themselves from liability, but they certainly can set up some killer deposition/trial questions about whether one heeded their safety recommendations and may have the ability to prove that one didnt.....

I'm quite convinced that this is legal maneuvering on their part, and I can't say I blame them.

  4. A bit disappointed if not surprised to hear about an October start for the battery fix. Hoping that maybe Canada will fair better but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

The longer the better to me it's like getting a new car. why rush no chance of my car blowing up...LOL. Plus I will wait for other owners to see how it goes they may screw it up ..

  6. You've got a point. All our milage until then is on Hyundai's dime. Of course, they won't be rolling back our odometers when they install the new battery so you'll still need to do a sales job if you're looking to get a primo trade-in or resale price.

Might go the other way to I will be given some sort of invoice showing say a new battery at 40,000 kms so now they have an almost new car.

I can beat that. My CAR was manufactured in Dec. 2019. I haven't looked at the battery date, but I presume it was made before the car. But my (U.S.) car is not listed on the recall site.

    Just wait

  11. Actually they knocked my charge capacity down to 80%, remotely, last week! No, I wasn't totally pissed off.

  13. Yes. They hacked your Bluelink app and set the state of charge to 80%, just as you could choose to do. It's not an enforced reduction as some were worried about or as a true OTA software change would be.

My bluelink does not allow me to change it back higher but I can do it via the infotainment system.. Anyways, I have decided to just follow the 80% charge level from this point forward.. The Model Y will be here in a few weeks.. Decided to wait for the new battery and then sell the Kona as hopefully, values will recover.
Not going to trade the wife's BMW i3 either.. Will have 3 EVs until I got the new battery and will then sell the Kona.. I can easily afford the extra payment on the Y..

That's what I'm assuming. But given the concern level this is causing, I don't get why Hyundai hasn't just notified everyone whether or not they're affected. They really are not handling this well.

  16. I was at the dealer two days ago and got all the related software updates done. I can still use 100% if I really need to, however sticking to 80% otherwise.
Here is some additional info on how the update and it's changes went:

  17. My dealer (in Ontario) just called to inform me. He said he had only one other customer to inform at his dealership. I think that owner is also on this forum. He said that snail mail and email notifications should be coming soon. He didn't pressure me at all to come in to the dealership. I told him I could reduce the charging myself and he was fine with that.

    Not me
I'm at the western end of Ontario...im usually educating my service guy on all this stuff. My guy is pretty chill, so hopefully it isn't an issue adjusting it myself.

  19. Got my official Canadian email. Letter apparently on the way. Looks like Canada intends to do the Bluelink forced change too. The only surprising point for me is that they are explicitly saying that it's safe to park your car inside after the 80% limit is set. Given how little they seem to know about the nature of the fires I'm surprised they feel comfortable making that concession.

  20. I'm in Massachusetts and have not received a letter, email or even a notification about the latest recalls regarding battery replacement or reduced charging limit. Likely will call the dealer as I have a very long drive planned end of May from Boston, MA to Milwaukee, WI and would be leery about the trip with an 80% limit.

For my part if the battery replacements don't come soon I would be happy with a buy back for the refreshed Kona. I love the look of the Ioniq 5 but like most other EV's it's too big for my needs/wants.

I'm in California. I went last week to take care of the braking recall, but they also set the battery charging limit to 80%. I only found out about the $200 gift card afterwards, so I called the dealer back this morning about having to go back just so they could verify that setting. I was told that, since they logged in their system as performing the change, that is the verification itself. At some point I guess I'll see that sweet, sweet 200 bucks.

Did you check your VIN against the RECALL site? Maybe yours is not affected?

  23. Do you mean the NHSTA site? If so, then yes, I checked yesterday.
