I agree with TR Smith. Don't panic.

My 2019 Kona was just refitted with a new 2021 battery by LG Chem. I don't make the assumption that if it's an EV battery and it's made by LG Chem, then it's bad.

Brand new Kona EV owner in Canada... picked it up on Wednesday. I've been following the discussion. Not particularly worried about the battery, but I thought I'd add some info from my car. June build date, June battery build date. Attached is battery labels pic. Of course, nothing on any recall sites. . There is another huge label with generic safety information in a bunch of languages.

This battery was manufactured by LG Chem and according to my dealer is not immune from Hyundai's recall campaign. Keep watching their recall site. Congratulations on your purchase I hope you get many km's of enjoyment!

Wow...I've gone through this thread and I've seen pics from others showing June 2021 labels on replacement batteries!

  8. What color-trim level did you acquire (hard to tell from the picture, they all look similar from this view), assuming this is a 21MY.
    Feel free to post here:

Hope you are enjoying your new ride and thanks for the label info.;)

  9. Thanks for posting the battery info.
Can you confirm that it is a 2021 model year?
Same part number as my 2021 Kona but newer BMS ROM ID: 7040
Don't suppose you can post the software version located in the dash display?

My info is on the 2022 model. I'll post a pic when the sun comes up here

  11. Please and thank you! That battery is likely as "fresh" as they come. It is a wonderful ride, enjoy!

I was informed that Hyundai is now recalling 2020 and 2021 models for the battery. My battery made in May 2021 hoping it is not subject to recall. But I was told to keep watching recall sites.

Where did you hear this? This would imply the batteries they've replaced in 2021 would not be good then.

From the Hyundai dealer. Yes it makes no sense. But it is happening.

  20. This is all that I can find that may allude to "more to come"....I don't have access to the paywall for the detroit news site...

AMID BOLT BATTERY FIRE PROBE, NHTSA ASKS LG IF OTHER CARS ARE AFFECTED

    - Responding to battery defects that cause a risk of fire in Chevrolet Bolt electric cars, a federal auto safety agency is communicating with the battery's maker, LG Energy Solution, to see whether other carmakers' EVs are affected.

    - In a statement, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration told The Detroit News it “currently does not have any open investigations into fires alleged with LG batteries outside of GM” but added that it’s “in touch with LG to identify other vehicles that may be impacted.”

    - The federal agency's probe focuses on the GM vehicles with battery cells supplied by LG Energy Solution, whose affiliate LG Electronics assembles the cells into modules and packs.

  21. This is odd. Are you certain that there are no other stickers beneath the one you showed that has HL Greenpower on it?

  22. I don't have a sticker there either. I contorted myself trying to get under there but I could never locate the yellow label. If I've got one it's somewhere else.

  23. What you have just said is very significant. Can you tell me why you believe that in March 2021 production was switched to another plant and that you believe that means they aren't LG packs? Your previous post had a photo of a battery that showed the standard sticker with the part/model number and date. HOWEVER, there was nothing else around it. It did not show the other sticker with the characters and "HL Greenpower" but you stated that there was another sticker like this. Can you please post a photo of all the stickers on the battery pack? If you have a Kona made in Korea without an HL Greenpower sticker, you may well not have an LG battery pack.
