It's a non-issue on our 2023 Limited and I'd rather have no wiper than the N wiper at the bottom of the glass. I can only hope Hyundai offers an upgrade/retrofit of the 2024 Rear View LCD/Mirror. I've seen one review and they didn't say boo about it so I'm really wondering if they didn't know or it wasn't on there as it appeared to be just a mirror.

Hyundai is so slow to react to customer concerns, to the point that, even though I love my Ioniq 5, I won't buy another Hyundai until the Corporate attitude is adjusted (which may never happen). How they can use an American-based YouTuber to point out the problems and fixes is beyond professional.

  4. I noticed a lot of the new KIA/HYUNDAI ice/hybrid cars are coming with a rear wiper tucked up under the spoiler, that's a nice way to do it. Now if they would do that for the I5 all would be well.

  5. This video shows that feature (ICE car) but the idea is the same. It also shows how to service them using "wiper service mode", which hopefully could be integrated as well, although not having to put vehicle into accessory mode would be a better approach.
My old Leafs had this feature which was handy during snow conditions as the wipers were up and not frozen to the snow accumulated lower wiper gutter- easier to clean.

  6. Well...going to revive this thread a little. Last week we had a few days of massive rains, 8" in about 4 hours! In any case I drove my wife to work in the morning of this crap and had a really steady downpour going on and to be honest the rear window in heavy rain and highway speeds was not that bad. In light mist it is worse but as I said before I usually use my side mirrors anyway.
Should it have a rear wiper? Probably, is it a deal breaker if it doesn't - shouldn't be. We'll see once winter hits and we do some road trips!

Thanks for that positive report! If Hyundai's aerodynamic solution to rear window-clearing didn't work at highway speeds, it would be a complete failure. I believe the high volume of that downpour helped clear any dirt trying to cling to the rear window.

I hope your home and neighborhood escaped the negative effects of that incredible amount of rain in such a short period.

Also, reviving threads is a good thing. It doesn't make sense to start a new, parallel thread that divides posts on the same topic unnecessarily.

  9. Yeah I agree that heavy rains not an issue, light mist not so much or running down a muddy back road that would cause issues! In any case not a deal breaker for me.
We came out ok as our house sits on a bluff but man there were a lot of flooded basements in the lower areas!

I have a Honda Clarity, which has a similar liftback style and no rear wiper. My solution is to apply RainX twice a year (I do all the windows, not just the rear.) Even stopped, water runs off the glass, and with a bit of speed it's clear, even in rain. The critical thing with Rainx is to apply a few coats, then let it dry thoroughly, like maybe 45 minutes. Then clear it off with a microfibre cloth, nothing else does nearly as good a job. The job is done when there's no haze left on the glass.

IMO, the rear window my non-liftback Honda Clarity sedan isn't at all similar the Ioniq 5's liftback hatch. I use Rain-X on my windshield, but don't experience rear-window accumulations so I don't bother to use Rain-X there.

The addition of a rear wiper to the most expensive Ioniq 5 strongly suggests its omission on lesser models was a cost-cutting measure.

I just looked and you're right, the angles are different. What made me associate the two was when the Clarity first came out a lot of people on the forums were also complaining about the lack of a rear wiper. But looking at the angles, the Ioniq would benefit more from one. I've had an Ioniq 5 on order for over a year, so I'm hoping soon I'll learn firsthand how bad it is, and if Rainx helps in this case.

As for Rainx, I apply it to all windows on all my cars because I like that the water beads and runs off, and in the process it seems to keep the windows cleaner. I even noticed on my windshield that it's easier to clean off the smashed bugs when it's been treated.

I love watching the water beading up on my Clarity's windshield so well that I don't have to use the wipers. I'm sure Rain-X will prevent most accumulations on the rear window of your Ioniq 5.

I doubt any car's rear window accumulates dust and dirt faster than my MINI Cooper (mine's electric, but all MINI Coopers have the problem). Its rear wiper is absolutely essential--Rain-X helps, but not enough.

Not Rain-X, use Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic. It's better. We use it on our I-5.

The funny thing is that I seldom use the rear wiper on our other vehicles. But I think I would use it more often on my Ioniq 5 if it had one. The rear window of the Ioniq is less vertical than the others and collects more dust and dirt.

The rear window of my MINI Cooper SE is nearly vertical, however the aerodynamics of this boxy car cause dust and dirt to accumulate on the rear of the car even when there's no dust or dirt on the road--maybe it makes its own. I'm glad MINI included a wiper on the hatch--I use it often.
