The fix for our notoriously inflated HV range estimate is out and ready to be installed at your Honda dealer as of June 12. This update is Service Bulletin SB 18-069 and is a software update that will not take long. Let the appointments begin! Many thanks to loomis2 and Demian Johnston who just posted this on the thread HV Range Bug. Made new thread to get the word out.
Thanks for the update! Is there a place to find all these service bulletins? I have a feeling there's a lot that Honda knows that they're not telling us.
Anthony W has been sharing a lot of them that he gets from 1 day pay subscriptions to Honda Express Tech. You can search his posts to get some otherwise I think you have to pay to play. The only thing that I can find that Honda gives out for free are recall/safety notices.
I imagine if this Service Bulletin does not include fixes for safety concerns, the dealers will want to install it at your next scheduled service.
At dealer now for HV Range fix. Service Mgr says system has no way for him to pull up Sevice Bulletins. What a bad system. Also says mine is the first one they’ve tried it on and once they rewrite it, there’s no going back. Holding my breath... After 1hr15min got car back with charging door open Ranges changed as follows EV 49.4 to 48.2 miles HV 495 to 357 (tank full since Feb) Total 544 to 409 Odometer 2,522 unchanged Driving home noticed nothing unusual. Not sure if I can force myself to go HV (after 4 months/2,499 m of pure EV) and run the engine so someone else may have to be the first to report how it works. I’m just thankful the car didn’t turn into a brick. So it looks like Honda did their homework on this one. So far so good.
I called my dealer and the service adviser was able to call up the Service Bulletin after I gave him the number. How long is the procedure at your dealer?
Let us know how it goes! Can't wait to get that one but will probably hold off until after our trip in July and we can do our A01 service (assuming it pops up again). We use a dealer 30 miles away or so as they seem more competent in the service department so I like to avoid unnecessary trips . Edit: It will probably take at least a gas fill up, so might not know for a while.
I was going to have it done Friday but we have a 700+ mile trip Saturday through Monday and who knows what might creep up from a firmware change. geo
Just got mine done. See above 1hr 15 min Paperwork says HV range display reading is unusually high Found software issue with meter Updated meter software per SB 18-069 The Sevice Mgr did not think it addresses any other issue. Time will tell.
Called my dealer yesterday and they were unaware of the service memo. They looked it up and confirmed it, but said they can't do the repair until I receive a notice directly from Honda. Unbelievable.
That doesn't sound right, at all. I visited my Honda dealer yesterday. The rep checked the service bulletin and set up an appt for me later this afternoon. The only question he asked whether or not I was experiencing the problem, to which I answered Yes, of course. KentuckyKen has already reported success with his, and I'll update my results as soon as soon as possible after they complete the fix. Do you have any other Honda dealers that are within easy driving distance?
Score another one for Tesla and their OTA updates. Hopefully Honda just needs a couple of days for the software and the info to propagate to the dealers. Sometimes the dealers get these types of updates mailed to them via snail-mail on a USB stick. Sad but true. I'm going to risk my cross country drive without the update. Maybe if I just put a sticky note over the HV Range and keep an eye on the fuel gauge, I'll be ok. Maybe I should keep some extra gas in the trunk.
Such BS. They don't have the software? What are they doing, awaiting a 3.5" floppy to pop into an IBM PS2? They download firmware from the Honda cloud and they apply it to their system and then to your car. They are showing their ineptitude on this one. I'd hold their feet to the fire. But not until some of you early adopters pave the way… Now get busy!
I'm at our local Honda dealer now, awaiting the update. They haven't indicated any lack of software, or any issues. Hopefully they will do the job. Interesting, while in the Waiting Room, I realized I had Android Auto set to turn on whenever the car Bluetooth was On, and it turned on my phone. I quickly disabled the setting so that it won't interfere with any of their work in the shop. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Inside EVs mobile app
They had it finished in about 30 minutes. According to the service guy, they just download the update to a thumb drive. No snail mail involved apparently. The process takes very little time. So far, so good. HV projection down from 999 to 359 miles. No apparent affect on EV estimate. Dealer is Leith Honda, in Southern Pines, NC Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Inside EVs mobile app
