Canadian prices have been announced and...whoa!

    I created a spreadsheet and printed it as a PDF for ease of viewing. I found it most interesting that the vast amount of features are reserved for the Ultimate package and the Essential package doesn't appear to fast charge. Enough though of what I think is interesting look at your color choices and features that you consider a requirement using this grid at a glance. It does look like there are plenty of value positions for buyers not wanting all the bells and whistles. I will point out that they have HDA and HDA2 as well as multiple passenger seat power options with subtle differences in the head lights and auto window up and down and for which windows. You'll catch most of the other differences but someone will just have to ask if anyone gets the drawer style glove box. Seems like a simple thing but the sliding center console only comes on one trim so maybe it's not so simple.

    I'm still wondering about some software features like auto parking, remote parking and the dashcam/trip recording feature. I've seen these things demo'd, even in Canada, but I've never seen any spelled out in a legit features list.

    Completely agree that all the really cool things packed into the Ioniq5 marketing is only in the Ultimate version, and that spreadsheet makes it clear. My belief is that at the price points in Canada, Hyundai wanting to stay within the rebate levels, this was a necessity. Not wanting to sound like a Hyundai fanboy (I have only seen the car from the outside and have only watched YouTube videos), but comparing the Ioniq5 Ultimate to the Tesla Y version available in Canada…I think they set a very good value proposition for someone like myself.

    All but the top trim have only the rear parking sensors. I think this is the first clue you’ll not be able to remote pull the car in or out of a parking spot. My guess the rear sensor will only do alerts.

  6. Undoubtedly these features would only be in the Ultimate trim but are they? I saw the "Smaht Pahk" demo'd on a Canadian car but it's not itemized anywhere.

    If that's confirmed, I'll buy the Ultimate model. We should see an update on the Canada web site. They put the list of cars that qualify. The only thing is that I choose the shooting star matte color. I'm scare a bit about this. I saw a lot of posts saying that this paint is fragile...

    An interesting assessment is that the SantaFe PHEV, that has a whopping EV range and fantastic milage, top trim cost is at the entry level IONIQ 5 trim cost but with a sprinkling of some high trim items from the IONIQ 5 and a few missing ones. If you only have a small commute you could manage to keep it in EV mode for most of the week and make the Hybrid look like a gas guzzling dinosaur for your longer trips and skip the charging seen until it's built out along your routes. It's not all puppy dogs and roses as the PHEV is a mighty slow charger and is really for those with limited EV needs on a regular basis. Unlike other PHEV's this one is built for efficiency. No it doesn't have HDA or bigger screens but will it will pamper you with many other high end features as you enjoy an upgrade over cloth with a heated steering wheel and a great powered passenger seat. It's not for everyone but I admire Hyundai for not being so closed minded to think one EV solution fits all. Over the next five years to a decade there is plenty of infrastructure that just isn't in place everywhere but will be built out. My wife could easily keep this in EV mode week after week after week. Yes the motor will turn on for maintenance needs and under hard acceleration but it's a drop in the bucket compared to Hybrids. No it doesn't have that; pin you to your seat thrill, but if you're after reducing to almost eliminating your vehicle carbon foot print, the SantaFe PHEV is quite capable of getting you there in style. This may be my pit stop until the IONIQ 5 becomes available in the States. Cheers...you all have options for sure.
     
  10. I've driven the Santa FE PHEV and the gas engine comes on with the slightest incline or acceleration. There is no way you could drive it as an EV only and there is no "EV only mode". Additionally, the 4cylinder engine is too small and is very noisy. I intended to buy one and wait a few years for a full EV, but it's just a hybrid with a bigger battery. If you do want a PHEV that will drive it's EV range without any need for the gas engine, the RAV4 Prime is excellent...but here the wait is 2 years...

    I have not driven the PHEV yet as they have no availability in my state. However your account doesn't match what I've seen posted online. Here is a video that includes a drive where the engine kicks on and off as he tests the highway speed it's capable of in EV only mode (Yes it can be kept in EV only mode easily by just watching the dash). The ICE engine sounded fine to me.



    Separately, I find this trainer to be a trust worthy source of vehicle information and as a Soul EV owner he's no amateur at analyzing the PHEV.


    As I stressed, this is not for everyone. The RAV4 Prime isn't as good in the snow as the SantaFe PHEV will be. The RAV4 is an EV only rear axil that tends to slip up front before it decides to add rear power as reported from multiple sources. Toyota has some home work to do on their programing. The SantaFe actually has two motors: one for accessories and start up and one in line with the ICE power plant that gives it way more power and efficiency than it has naturally and has a front to rear locking diff so it's the best AWD available in any Hyundai in this kind of application. It's not just a Hybrid as the SantaFe Hybrid fuel economy doesn't even come close to the PHEV on a long trip. Granted, I don't live in Canada but in NC and the accessory heater, heated seats and heated steering wheel would keep this in EV mode for my wife's 4 mile commute on back roads in the winter. So when I say she could do it, I wasn't kidding. It's capable of doing this two to three days without me charging it, lol so yes... it's not too much to ask of 13.8kW battery pack. I'm a reservation holder for the IONIQ 5 and will gladly purchase which ever comes available first and maybe even both. I don't think back to back US tax credits are prohibited for PHEV in 2021 and IONIQ 5 in 2022 which yields a higher rebate here. The PHEV 13.8 kW is only a grand behind in the tax credit department and my 2011 with 197K is getting cranky and may not live long enough for Hyundai for deliver the IONIQ 5 that should have been here already. So I may have to make a choice I hadn't intended to make which is why the PHEV SantaFe was on my radar. Not my first choice but one might fine pinch hitter in my opinion.

  13. Hey, I'm not trying to dis the Santa FE. I think it's great, and as you've stated it has many advantages over the RAV4. I'd much rather have a Santa FE over a RAV4, but having driven both, if you're looking to use the Santa FE in EV only mode my experience is it doesn't work very well. That's just my opinion, and my hope isn't to slow the sale of Santa FE vehicles, just to strongly encourage you to drive one before you buy one.

    I was about to pull the trigger and trade our Kona, reserve a PHEV Kia Sorento

    Why the Sorento? I'd like the 6 passenger

    I love the Ioniq5, and with this news of the 13k being eligible because of these "options/packages" loop hole even on the Ultimate Trim.... real hard not to pull the trigger on it instead of the Sorento Phev

    It's really hard for me to swallow going to a PHEV now that we've tasted full EV

    Having a motor/oil changes etc.... kinda tickles me the wrong way now (defeats the purpose)....

    Here is the million dollar question

    What color Ioniq would you go for in Ultimate trim?

    I love the digital teal (so does my wife).... but it only comes with the white/beige interior which isn't our go to with 2 young kids.... at the same time it's the only color on the Ultimate that none of the other trims have as well

    The only other color we like is Cyber Grey....

    Pricing was just announced so it takes time for the iZEV list to be updated ... I wouldn't expect that to happen immediately being a government web site that needs input from Hyundai. As for matte paint, I've read a good ceramic coating will help protect the paint.

    I’ve sat in all three rows of the Sorrento with a stature of 6 foot and let me tell you that last row in the back is barely tolerable for a short commute. For a family where the highest height is 5 foot 10 it would still only be barely barely tolerable just because of how close to the floor it sits. Don’t hesitate if you like that top spec unique color because that’s the one I would go for unless you want to go incognito which white is your choice. No one wiil know if it’s the base model of the top model. Hyundai does a horrible job at showing you the colors online so I would get to a dealer and look at samples if they have them. I would stay away from the matte color unless you’re ready to maintain it. I would stay away from the black unless you’re going to put a PPF coat on it to keep it as beautiful as it was on day one. The Lucid Blue was my choice but honestly I think it may be like the lagoon blue on the Santa Fe and I’m not a fan of that flat minimalist metal flake in the paint because it would require you to PPF it to keep the top surface perfect so it didn’t look like a wreck in eight years.

    My wife is 5 foot and the boys are 8 and 2 (and the inlaws are all 5 foot to 5.5) .... LOL! So third row of any car (probably even the retarded Model Y third row, would do just fine for my family hahaha

    I think the only way you can even tell is on the wheels which are 20 vs 19

    Apart from that the full glass roof and the color would be the only two other indicators (and possibly the front sensors for parking)

    I'll call my dealer and see if and when they'll have the color (interior/exterior) for me to see in person

    Well the third row would be definitely an option. I think it’s safest to deal with a dealer when it comes to the color but there may be some early indicators in other markets with identical colors as to what they look like in real life. There has been a few photos on post on this site. Good luck and congratulations in advance.

  19. If you haven't ordered an Ioniq5 yet you won't be getting one for a year anyway. By that time the color choices may well have changed. As to the light coloured seats, a swipe with a microfiber cloth cleans then up, no problem.

    I have an official confirmation from my dealer that the Ultimate does qualify for the Federal ($5,000) incentive. The Ultimate package does not count for the price threshold. Very good news.

  22. I'm starting to allow myself to believe it. When it's posted on the Transport Canada list all of my doubt will fall away.
    It's got me thinking that EV incentive programs really do work, both for encouraging buying but also in driving prices downward...or, at the very least, keeping them as low as possible.

    Yes, that's also what I'll do. But it's an official Hyundai statement, my dealer told me. Now, last thing is waiting for delivery. It should be around 3 months. They told me that my Ultimate will start to build in December, so I should have my I5 in March.
