Battery Recall for Canadian Kona Owners

Bought my 2019 Kona EV in Duncan, BC…had terrible service there so never did the service there. We went to Nanaimo Wheaton Hyundai for all service. Turns out where you get car serviced is where battery line up is.

My wife commutes from Chemainus to Victoria with it 5 days a week. We racked the kilometres on it in hopes for the new battery. We now have over 108,000 kms. We love the car and have had no issues.

we have been #3 on THE LIST for about 4 months so it’s frustrating. We got the call last Friday that battery is in so we booked tomorrow Tuesday for install at 0830 am. They have a loaner EV to give us while work is being done.

I’ll follow up and let you know how it all goes.

I’ll ask about the 850 gift card too as was promised. My thought is warranty of 8yrs/160kms should start when new battery in as no fault of ours. Fingers crossed

My first Li-ion battery from LG died at 134,000 km, which was 26,000 km before the 160,000 km distance cap expiration.

Under warranty, we got a replacement battery from LG. It took six months to arrive. The replacement battery did not get the same warranty as to the original battery, which was 160,000/8 years whichever comes first. Instead, the replacement batter got the remainder of the 26,000 km.

The warranty of 26,000 km does not seem to be sufficient, fair whatever else is added.

We are already at 168,000 km - the remaining warranty of 26,000 km is gone.

We are without any warranty on the battery at the moment. If this battery dies, we will have to pay some $10,000 - $15,000 for a new battery. That new battery will have a warranty of 20,000 km/12 months only.

That is how Hyundai Canada treats their customers.

 

They gave us a red Kona ev and said it would be about 4 days to change battery, I don’t know how you are getting it done in 4 hours. It’s ok at least we have a loaner.

it will be like getting a new car when it’s done as electric cars are all about the battery. New battery = new car

 

Got my “your battery is here” call today, so tomorrow’s the day.

 

It's been so quiet for so long I was beginning to think that all the affected batteries had already been replaced. It seems that is not the case.

 

I have already posted that my battery was replaced on May 3. Just wanted to report that the $850 virtual card arrived on June, so in about 7 weeks. Given the long (over one year) wait for the replacement battery, I think Hyundai Canada has treated me fairly with $1100 ($250+$850) as compensation. With the Covid-19 going on, I was mostly hunkered down and not really inconvenienced very much with the 80% limit.

 

Today was indeed the day.

Well I have the same result as" rickkers" post $250 + $850 + New battery hell of a deal. I just waited for it all to happen well I just drove the car..... the car didn't give me any trouble ..

 

Has anyone with a 2021 received the $850 compensation for the battery recall? I was just told my claim has been denied due to the recall being for the 2019-2020 models only, even though my car was gone for 6 months with a fault!!
One would think Hyundai could extend this small gesture.

 

Well they should give you something more then $850.00 Did they give you an electric loaner if not get them to pay for the gas . Fight It.

 

I will stay on them as it was an ice loaner. Aways seem to get the runaround in these matters.
