Interesting about the headlights. My personal opinion is that I like them a lot better than Teslas.

Startup isn’t difficult in the Mini. Although I do forget my key now that I’m used to not having to have one in the Tesla. I also tend to turn on the windshield wipers whenever I attempt to engage drive.

Seriously though why does Mini need a key? Even the upcoming one has one.

J01: "Hold my Snow Beer," whack, whack, yank, twist, "Bye, bye, toggle! Now, can I interest you in an Experience?"

So you bought a Telsa for road trips and use the Mini for local and fun driving. A plug-in hybrid or ICE powered car would be way more practical and you get less evil looks from people judging you for buying a Tesla.

That probably is a good solution for some. I just never want to buy fuel ever again. Plus, no oil changes or emissions testing is a great benefit personally. Having road tripped a Tesla, I just see no downsides. It’s so much easier than one would think.

I can tell you from previous experience that you do need a key. I was at the shop having my tires replaced, and when I was ready to leave, the door wouldn't open. I later found out that the battery in the fob had died, and the car didn't know me. Fortunately, the key is inside the fob.

I agree. An ICE or PHEV may be a better solution for some. But road tripping in an EV is not the disaster it is made out to be. I have been road tripping in a Bolt EV for years, with its slow 50kW DC charging and relatively unreliable CCS network. With planning it’s really not bad. Any Tesla is of course superior to the Bolt for road tripping, and is pretty close to the ICE experience at this point.

We are likely trading in our ICE Mini S for a Model 3 LR once the highland update is available here. However current LRs are going for about 6k off MSRP and qualify for the 12k in rebates.

Don’t forget to ask a friend or family member for a referral code to save an extra $500.

Be careful what you wish for. LOL

The more I think about Mini, the more I think they dropped the ball not having another option available sooner. The current SE seems very popular.

I don’t think they anticipated how good the reception would be even with some drawbacks

but our original plan was to trade the ice S in for the J01 and buy back the SE. However Tesla offered us 21k for our ICE S , 6k off and 12k of gov rebates. With 5k cash down and rebates it’s 25$ more per month than what the Mini SE costs. Since we are doing in a trade in there is a tax savings as well.

SE is not very popular here and even the MINI ICE drivers at my local MINI club can't get past the range. I suppose I need a better approach.

Any money from AC? Buddy got $3700 towards a Bolt EUV.

Do they hate the SE so much they won't try driving one?

Nah, there's only one MINI dealership within 200 miles and they still have the audacity to do an $8k markup on the SE. Management is pretty toxic.

Not sure I’ll have my wife check. We got 1000$ off on the SE though

Unfortunately, most of the Mini owners I know are showing little interest in the SE.

Not sure where you live but they are pretty popular here and when I was in the UK everywhere.
