Communication is difficult…. But I totally feel ya. I don’t think anyone really actually knows when a car will be loaded onto a ship until it actually gets put on. My guess is that they just say hey, we have 100 cars that need to go to NYC, and they are not necessarily tracked by VIN until they are loaded onto the ship - there simply isn’t a need (theoretically?) for them to get that granular until they need to complete a shipping manifest. I work in supply chain in automotive, and that’s how we do it. We just know we need to move 2 trailers of packaging back to a supplier today. We don’t know which of the various containers are going on what trailer until it is actually loaded. But we do know that they will get loaded and shipped back, probably on one of those 2. Actual supply chain is pretty loosey-goosey. It’s a wonder that it works (worked?) so well for so long with so little actual data… Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
For sure it's not easy & things like chip & labor shortages throw it off, but there are some very easy things Mini & the shippers can do to improve the experience. And it should start with Peter Drucker's "If you can't measure it, you can't improve it." If I can accurately track every Xmas shipment I ordered, in addition to the pizza delivery & my husband on his way home from work, I should be able to do something similar for a car that literally has a GPS transmitter in it. In 2021 (almost 2022) it's weird that this one particular forum thread is the best way to set expectations. I'm sure people will be a little less on edge about this once we get past the new year & they're not worried about whether or not it'll arrive in time for the tax credit.
Agreed. It should be simple to improve in theory, but at what cost… I think the Mini Garage is pretty accurate, but mini doesn’t know when it will move - heck, the shipper probably doesn’t even know when it will move! As far as expectations, my MA was pretty accurate, 10-12 weeks, including a week at the US port. This week is week 12. I think Minis site could be improved to show expected build date (VINs are scheduled for a build week typically 1wk out, then actually scheduled for a day to start 2ish days before), projected completion date, and ship date, but anything past getting to the UK Port… good luck. That’s out of their hands and at the mercy of the port. I imagine it would be an expensive overhaul for the port to have that granularity, without a lot (if any) of return on that investment. Crap gets shipped as soon as it’s able. They get paid to get it shipped ASAP for as cheaply as possible. Emphasis on cheaply… Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Mine just showed up at the dealership. Planning to pick up tomorrow. I might just sleep until then to pass the time faster
Our new Mini SE left the UK last week, but I'm no longer able to access the website to track my Mini. Anyone else having trouble with https://mygarage.miniusa.com ? It acts like it logs in, but says "Hi, NULL" at the top and won't load the Dashboard, My Vehicles, or Track My Mini. Wondering if this is something lingering from the AWS failure earlier this week?
Yeah I think it’s their site. My garage isn’t working for me either. Mine’s due to hit the US port in about 8 hours and I was really looking forward to seeing the status update on the mini tracker.
Apologies if this belongs in a different thread! Quick question for the hive mind as I prepare to pick up my SE next week. Are there any protection options that folks would recommend considering upon signing the dotted line? Should I expect the dealer to try and sell me protection products beyond those which MINI themselves have advertised? I've seen some conflicting information in this regard - wondering what others have experienced.
There are a few threads (here's one, but there are more) in this forum about ceramic coating, paint-protection films, clear bras, and window tints. Most prefer to have them applied by specialists rather than their dealers.
In my experience, the finance guy will ask about extended warranty, extended maintenance, tire/wheel protection, and if you want any tint or clear bra. I don't think they've ever asked about anything else, and they've never tried to push those things on me.
The Donington just showed up on land based tracking about an hour ago, headed toward Chesapeake Bay, WooHoo!
I just picked up mine today! (Friday). Apparently I’m the first customer in Baltimore to pick up a car from this boat (Hoegh Trapper). Adjusting to one-pedal driving now!
I just picked up mine tonight as well #hoeghtrappertrain Pics and introduction coming tomorrow! Got to drive it around tonight, and had quite a few miles to put on it unexpectedly, but honestly, 100+ mi range is pretty far! My wife and I were beating on it (the Electric Grin is real!) and used up less than half of the battery over the course of almost 60-70mi (mix of interstate and city). After my wife took it for a spin she said that when I am working from home, if she needs to go anywhere…. Yeah. I think she’s going to find excuses to run errands hahaha. I gotta tell ya, I haven’t had as much fun in the passenger seat when she was driving since I was riding shotgun in my moms stock Miata. Great, great fun. To those waiting, hang in there! ITS WORTH IT! But don’t forget to live while you’re waiting Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Mine hit the Galveston port early this morning. Hoping for a quick turnaround at the port but I assume lots of Christmas goodies are arriving now..
Speaking of which, anybody have a car come through the Galveston port lately? How long did it stay at port before getting on a truck?
