Looking for advice and experience - Purchasing PHEV/BEV

I recommend a lease, rather than outright purchase. The Toyota/Lexus EV has generous lease cash offers, bringing 3 year cost of ownership below $10,000 USD. I daily drive a Nissan Leaf SL+ (bigger battery pack and motor) with a Lexus hybrid as backup. https://www.edmunds.com/lexus/rz/2024/deals/

Low frequency hum when accelerating? Is this normal?

    That's a generous understatement.

Verify UVO is off - Many have reported that the constant query sent by the car is enough to drain the 12v battery - when the ca is parked.

Tapping or Creaking Noise when coasting at low speed

It is important to note that there have been vanishingly few mechanical failures of Niro EVs. Perhaps noisy motors are detected soon enough to avoid catastrophe. SWAG follows : this problem appears rare, and confined to the first model year with the 710 motor. If you're past 30,000 miles, in...

2019 Niro EV reduction gear noise

"The dealership also tried to tell me that the motor and gearbox aren't part of the powertrain, which was frustrating." These have been in dealerships since 2015, and the still don't have qualified staff. Small wonder there is an excess of EV6 on lots. The KIA warranty clearly states 8...

    Dealer buys out lease?

Perhaps a phone call to the dealership in question coul get them to put their intentions in writing. You right to be suspicious of a US auto dealership. https://getjerry.com/car-loan/hyundai-lease-return#how-a-hyundai-lease-return-works

Hyundai - Will I Ever Learn?

Hyundai and KIA are rapidly wearing out their welcome in North America. If Chinese brands make it here, Hyundai/KIA/Genesis are finished. Mediocre products sold at a premium with substandard service are discarded.

2019 Niro EV reduction gear noise

I suggest trying another dealership. KIA has a 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty. If the TSB has not been rectified, KIA corporate must get involved. *In my experience* Hyundai/KIA Dealers are interested in selling, not servicing EVs...

Hyundai - Will I Ever Learn?

It feels as if every company has seen the lack of meaningful consequences against airlines mistreating customers, and followed suit. For this kind of do$h, at least hire a help desk.

Tapping or Creaking Noise when coasting at low speed

It is most evident on mine at speeds from around 17-28 mph. It might be a sweet spot between making the noise loud enough but road noise is still quiet enough. Not sure. It’s definitely harder to hear the road is rougher... I put my cellphone inside the motor bay (passenger side, near the...

Was Toyota right? Lagging EV sales

There are surplus gas vehicles, too. Toyota is "spinning" a narrative to serve its own interests. The market for personal autos is likely to shrink, Globally.

Low frequency hum when accelerating? Is this normal?

The point of an EV qualified dealership certifying the problem is to create a paper trail. This is your only route to warranty coverage if a failure takes you off the road. My experience leads me to believe Hyundai/KIA is denying initial claims and hoping the second owner sells off the vehicle.

Low frequency hum when accelerating? Is this normal?

This is a known issue. Hyundai and KIA notoriously avoid the necessary motor and gear reduction unit replacement. *In my experience* it will be a full year before repairs begin and another 6 months before they authorize the fix. If you can return this vehicle, now is the time...

Adapting to Tesla (now that they’re winning the charger standard war)

As an open standard, all adopters will utilize similar software "handshake" protocols for charging. There will be a minimum standard for hardware that must in place to make this happen. For faster DC charging, temperature management is required. Does the Clarity have a battery coolant? If...
