Ah, there are so many possibilities. IBM has a new sea water battery. Vanadium will replace lithium "any day now". Even Tesla has new patent applications for batteries.

Hopefully, something will come from that. A battery that can last 3000+ cycles will likely outlast every other major part on a vehicle.

Thing of it is, batteries have to be cheap to make, safe, scale well, and easily manufacturable. It says a lot that the lead-acid battery is still in use after 160 years.
