Small issues/quirks

I think those switches are designed using urethane inserts to give a strong over-center feel. When pushed, they pump out air and when released that returns slower via small gaps. I suspect that the slightest bit of fluid spilt would change their characteristics, even water until it drys out.

My thoughts were along that line with the way they felt. I was going to suggest alcohol swabs to thoroughly wash the sides of the buttons and even a small amount of rubbing alcohol to pour onto the buttons. Alcohol is hydrophilic and will attract water but will easily break down and dry out sick stuff. If you’re 100% sure it’s not something spilled might get Hyundai to take it apart if it doesn’t start working again after a few days.

Some mornings, always mornings, the shifter buttons are very sticky, sludgy when depressed and the recoil is slow too. It's like when you spill juice or pop on a keyboard. Other times it's nicely clicky and responsive. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've just started using the radio. It seems very weak at holding a signal. Stations don't seem to really lock in solidly. Moreso than any car I've owned. It's sensitive to receiving stations but not keeping them.

I can't wait to NEVER use a radio again :)
I'm soooooo looking forward to linking my spotify, phone, what not and say goodbye to CDs and the ads of my local radio station.
OK, I'll prob turn on a radio when the country around my city is on fire (again) or some other nat disaster, but day to day, I'm out!

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions. I am 100% certain that nothing was ever spilled on the switches. Also, the "sticky/sludgyness" is intermittent. It's weird. Not serious or a real problem but off-putting and odd.

Anyone else have the Sirius traffic nag ? I've disabled the traffic monitoring but still I get a Sirius nag when I start up.
I think we should be able to use HD Traffic without needing any pay services.

Did your subscription just expire? I had the nag for a few days after mine expired. But then it just stopped. I also changed to hd radio only. But it didn't seem to affect it immediately.

I also looked at the actual subscription and what info is summited through Sirius. The service is a joke. They only cover certain roads even in bigger metropolitan area. So that's something I definitely will not pay for.

I love the XM radio, though.

sirius is a serious pain in the you know what. I keep getting robo calls from their marketing and mail every two weeks offering me a discount. I wish they would stop.

Wow, I've never received any calls from them and our old car had an xm radio as well.

Just a stupid idea but are you signed up on their homepage with your email? Or just through your dealer when you got it?

It might be worth getting an Account with an email. Maybe they'll stop calling you and you'll only get their emails which you can then unsubscribe from?

Just done by dealer I guess. I never signed up for anything. Have gotten about 20 robo calls, sometimes more than one per day. About 6 letters offering discounts, annoying!! The calls have eased up now, hopefully they are done.

I actually just logged into my account and there is a preference setting where I can turn on/off phone, email, text and other contact settings. So you might want to do that. I assume your dealer signed up your radio-ID with your phone number, and that's all. So they have no other means of contacting you, and that's why you receive these calls.

Yeah, have never been impressed with SXM. Sound quality is not much better, if at all, as FM. Same with my other car. Will not renew once my free time is up.

I find the best quality sound is through Google Music or Paradise Radio (am sure many other digital choices are as well). I have a real base with these vs just standard FM or XSM. Sounds more a like a premium sound system.

I phoned them the day after I got the car and told them to shut it off and don't try to contact me . Radio worked for the 3 months and shut off by itself. Received 2 notices in snail mail which I threw out and that was it.
XM is usually free on some U.S. holidays and some promo periods if you want to listen to it.
You can keep track of the free periods here:

If the calls continue, I will try that. Thanks

Weird that it only happens sometimes. Are you noticing this more now, or has it always been like this?

So here’s a new one! It might be more than “minor” and may require its own post but we’ll start here.

So I get into my car last night - turn it on as per usual. My gauge cluster is blank. The only metrics I see are the power, range and that my doors are open. But the “open door” image is frozen on the screen. I have no speed or anything. The main circular screen is completely blank. I turned the car off and back on with no change - screen still blank. I drove about 15km with no speed indication. Thankfully the HUD was fully functional. I tried changing the driving mode - nothing! I got to my destination, shut the car off and came back to it about 2 hours later and it was working as per normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Here’s a quick video taken while I was driving.

Yes, the exact same issue occurred with my Kona EV. I was at the grocery store on a hot summer day and I loaded my trunk with groceries. When I went into the cabin to drive, I received a warning light that the trunk was still ajar. I went out and closed it harder...went back inside...same message. Hmm...I drove off thinking it was a sensor issue and my instrument cluster was blank...completely blank... Like yourself, I used the heads-up display to see what my driving speed was. I went home, turned off my car, unloaded the groceries, and when I went back to my car and turned it on, everything was fine! I went to my local Hyundai dealer yesterday to report the issue. They suggested I keep track of it and to let them know if it should happen again. I'm glad (sorta) that another Kona EV driver is reporting the same issue. I always think it's just me. :)

Another issue I've had is when plugging in my iPhone X using a cable and then placing it on the self-charging pad, the entire display (8") goes blank and my iPhone does as well. This has happened to me twice. I also notice that the phone tends to get very hot, causing the phone to have very odd behaviors until it cools down. Hmm...

Are you using the Qi charger? If not, it can be turned off, though I have no idea if this would help.
