My new Kona Electric and my first impressions

Mine doesn't seem to have separate charging and climate scheduling. It says charging and climate DEPARTURE scheduling. It has settings for hours and the days of the week. And there are two separate DEPARTURE choices. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Hmm, here's what mine shows. I got there from the Home Screen by pushing EV, then Charge Management. I left the Scheduled Climate unchecked so it wouldn't heat the cabin but would still have the car fully charged by 6:20am.

Thanks. I'll check that out tomorrow. I remember seeing a similar screen but not the separate charging and climate boxes to tick. Perhaps I'm just frazzled. Long day.

All right. In the spirit of recording true first impressions I will jot down some in point form. And after that I'll have some questions for you veterans. Here goes:

I really liked the colour. So did my two companions. It was sitting in the sun and was delightfully blue.

Dealership was nice, prepared and contrite. Also delighted to be selling their first unit. Took my pic for website. Say of five orders two cancelled due to price. Two ordered Preferred and not happy waiting until May.

Super happy they give paper owners manual!

Door sticker says Dec 21st build. Isn't that the day they released the price? Jeez.

Winter steel rims look crappy. I snapped on my new black and silver PVC wheel covers to solve that ugliness!

XIce i3s very quiet. Curious about OEM tires. 6 more weeks to Spring!

Dealer installed incompatible TPMs. Will swap out soon. No biggie.

The interior is light and airy. Everything I'd hoped for. The blue accents are very blue to me, the seats are all but white and the various "grey" accents read more like silver/grey.

First sunroof ever for me. Didn't want it. I really like the extra light and no problem with headroom.

Many multi-function buttons!

Driver's seating feels tight. Minimal man-spreading possible.

Back hurt instantly. Hoping I adapt. Heated lumbar helped. Nice high seating position. Good visibility.

Thank goodness for the lane keeping assist. I was swerving like a drunk when I got caught up in the button pushing. It pulled me back into the middle several times.

Regen system is good and not quite what I had anticipated. I like coasting at 2 and stopping by pulling to 3. I could get used to driving without brakes pretty fast.

Mirrors are good and big.

Back-up camera is not bad though already blurred with salt.

I accidentally shifted into neutral while driving! I guess I rested my hand on the console. Scared holy hell out of me. I had no idea why I had no power. Spotted the "N" on the display and figured it out. Embarrassing. Worried what the dog could do!

Car's now in shade. No blue colour apparent at all. Yuck.

Very quiet inside. Being stopped is eerie.

Not sure why I have to push power button twice to be "on"? What's with the blue light and then green light?

Blue Link not ready. Will take until at least Tuesday, apparently. Sigh.

Checked out many screens and menus. Left most on factory settings. Turned on the active Regen. Will fiddle later with more personalized preferences.

Delighted by HUD. Very bright and handy. Adjusted to suit my posture.

Haven't settled on favoured drive mode or dash board configuration yet. Not sure yet what info I want displayed.

Leaving Winter mode on all year? Why not?

Tried to schedule off-peak charging. Menus insist on scheduling charge/climate DEPARTURE before even allowing access to off-peak menu. And why are there two DEPARTURE schedules? And does scheduled departure override off-peak scheduling? Am I heating my car needlessly when I just want charging? Why would you schedule CHARGING upon DEPARTURE? Very confused. Is this a Korean/English translation mix-up? Hoping Blue Link allows clearer scheduling of off-peak charge times independent from this whole scheduled Departure nonsense.

Have bit of a headache from all this. Looking forward to it all becoming second nature.

Happy? Yes, I think so.

So what happens if you push R or P when driving?
BTW congrats, I guess I'm the last one
I vaguely recall reading somewhere that it won't let it happen unless you're going super slow and then it may make some grinding noises. I'll see if I can find where it said that. Somewhere in the 25lb manual lol

This is from the online owner's manual:
Shift-lock system For your safety, your vehicle has a shift-lock system which prevents shifting the gear from P (Park) or N (Neutral) into R (Reverse) or D (Drive) unless the brake pedal is depressed. To shift from P (Park) or N (Neutral) into R (Reverse) or D (Drive), from R (Reverse) into D (Drive) or from D (Drive) into R (Reverse) : 1. Depress and hold the brake pedal. 2. Start the vehicle or place the POWER button in the ON position. 3. Press the R (Reverse) or D (Drive) button.

Nothing, thankfully. Pulling the little parking brake lever does indeed do something, however. We can thank my wife for that discovery while fiddling with things as I was driving...
Eek! Tell us what happened as I fear that I will fiddle and do something like that. Did you screech to a halt?

I bet! There's alot to learn that's for sure!
I checked out that scheduled charging menu today with a clearer head and was able to find the menus you mentioned de-linking climate from charging so thanks for the help. I also carefully paged through every menu and turned virtually everything ON. I figure it's the best way to find out quickly what will need to be turned OFF! Dingdong, beep beep, boopboop. I'm sure something will bug me enough eventually to get the old heave ho.

It was like slamming on the brakes but she immediately realized what she had done and released it, so it didn't come to a stop. Well, more like slamming on non-ABS brakes, as the vehicle did give a slight jerk to the right (it's winter, the roads aren't the best around here). Not something I want to try again. I'm sure it didn't help with me hollering something like "what the hell are you doing?".

A gentle reminder that what we so often call the parking brake is actually the emergency brake! And my language would have been an order of magnitude more colourful!

That "what the hell are you doing" sounds like me when my husband is testing out collision avoidance and the stop and go cruise control versus the regular cruise control. I don't use cruise control as I am a control freak, and can't leave it up to the car. lol

Okay. Same charging question - So I turned off both of the Departure settings. They are not a factor now. I set up off-peak hours suitable for my area 7:30 pm to 7:00am. I set the priority for ONLY off-peak charging. I also set Location based charging to my own house location.

I came home today from a drive at 3:00 and plugged in. Boom! I hear the connection get made, the battery indicator next to the car's charging port starts flashing, the dash says it's at 84% and 2 hours 15 minutes to full.

So, is it charging now, almost 4 hours early despite the above-mentioned settings? Does it just LOOK like it's charging?

I jotted down the state of charge and I'm going to let some time pass, then check to see if it actually IS charging or if it's a fake-out. But does anybody know what I'm looking at?
EDIT* I just looked. It's been charging for real. Went from 84 to 100 percent. It's still two hours before off-peak. Ugh.

Well, you finally got your car, congrats. We communicated on another forum (tslemko). Same colour as mine. Your build date is one day later than mine. To avoid pressing power more than once, make sure you press the brake pedal while pressing power. I tried driving on regen level 0 on the highway, and it felt right, and with auto regen on, it slowed when approaching slower cars, and entered regen going down hills, neat! I found that even with regen at 0, when I press brake, it entered regen first, and only used regen to slow down unless I pressed quite hard on brake. Also, it seemed to enter a better regen level (on the power meter), by using brakes instead of setting regen to 2 or 3. It seemed to get better range on highway, but I haven't taken the time to really test it thoroughly.

If you don't mind me asking ,Tom, you said my build date is 1 day after yours. What was your order date? I'm still curious about how they managed distribution.

My order date was July 10, I think that was a week before you!!
But I was replying to electriceddy.
What was your order date Wildeyed?

3 days earlier. So it looks like they might have grouped build dates by pre-order dates but given all the late orders that got delivery MUCH earlier than us I'm beginning to think they must have executed the list backwards, reverse chronologically. Brilliant!

And then you hear some people getting their cars only weeks after ordering, bummer!!
