You have "receive site mailings" checked, and you enabled receiving emails if someone sends you a message/conversation
Conversation messages are those via the "Inbox". I was getting emails for alerts for new replies to forum posts even though those were not selected to be sent via email in the settings.

I’ll second the MacRumors example. The way they have it setup shows the “highest rated” or “most liked” comments below the article while clicking a the comment link takes you to the article post in the forums.
Oh, someone else mentioned Disqus. Please do NOT use them! They have a forced arbitration clause in their TOS. I have been unable to comment on any websites that use Disqus because I refuse to agree to forced arbitration.

Could we get a larger window, 4-8 hours, to edit our posts?
Recently I posted a benchmark chart at 10:35 PM only to realize within 3 hours at 1:08 AM my mistake. I corrected the chart using a graphics editor but when I tried to correct my original post, it was frozen. So I did the next best thing, replied and fixed the copy with an IMG tag pointing to the correct one. Then I used "Report" to requesting moderator help to get the correct image in.
Yes, I realized after-the-fact edits can be abused. But sometimes an error can take a little longer to be seen and corrected. My recommendation is 6-8 hours (i.e., long enough for a nap) would work better for me. I'm also OK with having at the bottom something like "Last edited hh:mm." The warning text allows others to see if someone abused their edit by making inappropriate changes to text or image.
A retired engineer, I'm fondest of an edit log with reasons for each but posting version control is not trivial and these are not 'rocket science' musings. If the last edit included a character limited reason, special font, say 80 characters in memory of the long gone IBM Hollerith card or the feedback comment field of eBay, ~50 characters, would be enough.

Users have asked for longer edit windows in the past, and the community voted on the 2 hour limit (default 15min, industry standard is around 1hour). Forums are not meant to be formal. The integrity of a forum lies in the transparency of human interaction, mistakes included. We realize that people may find errors outside that window, so to fix them just report the post and tell the moderators what you need changed/edited. We are more than happy to edit it for you.
I like the idea of an edit log, however this probably requires outside development. Maybe have a "lasted edited: __" with link to section at the bottom of page with all edits? As we get more resources here, I will look further into this. I know that admins have access to post history and edit times, just have to figure out how to build a secure and simplified version for all users.
EDIT: Other forum admins are interested in a similar idea, but no resources exist yet

I was thinking maybe you could add a “reason for edit” field. I don’t know how easy something like that would be to implement, but I believe I’ve seen it before. It could be setup as a condition for adding an edit and look something like “Last Edited: 10:16 9/6/2018, Reason: Grammar correction.”
Edit: Fixed grammar in the first sentence (yes, I do see the irony)
When looking to see if someone has wandered off, how far back does this text, ". . . was last seen: Thursday at 5:30 PM", show up?

I believe if it's more than a week, it would include the date.
I wish the media, and maybe starting with InsideEVs, would stop associating Bob Lutz by one of his many past positions but with his current position as Chairman of Via Motors. How many other public business people are addressed by past title instead of current title? Bob once praised Tesla, now he seems to be on the warpath. GM is represented by Mary Barra not Bob Lutz.

I agree. GM has moved on; Bob Lutz is stuck in the past, and stuck in a dead-end job at a tiny conversion van company with few if any customers. It's time to stop giving him credit for being a leader in the EV revolution. He was at one time, but now he's a dinosaur bellowing about the past; someone who sadly has turned away from the future. I can see why CNBC gives him a microphone, because his bellowing is entertaining; but he has lost most if not all of the respect he once earned.

Perhaps add an automatic signature block?

Ok, I paid the $20 not so much for the signature but in appreciation for the forum and moderators. I logged out and back in but don't see the signature option in my profile, yet. This suggests a manual step is involved so I'll try again Friday or perhaps the 'powers that be' will send me a note.

InsideEV advertising is getting truly annoying. I understand advertising pays bills, but they should be a sides, bottom and static. Annoying ads draw attention to themselves by blinking etc. and I hate pop-ups that block what I am reading. The latest thing is that ads are inserting themselves in between posts and then going away making my post that I am reading jump up and down the screen. I see a note at the bottom to subscribe for no ads. What does this cost? Is it a monthly fee? Does it actually get rid of them or just make them less annoying. This is a good way to drive readership away.
