That is an interesting approach. I'm not sure we're ready to jump to a system quite like that, where every news post creates a Forum thread and removes commenting from the InsideEVs main site. Definitely worth looking at it and seeing if there are aspects to this approach that might work for us.

I agree that combining the news comments into the forum would be nice and drive people to use the forum.
 
Any way to remove the pictures from the listing of active threads? They seem to be one of the reasons that everything takes up so much space. I want to quickly scan, but the bloated screen layout forces a lot scrolling.

If you have a full-featured browser, you should be able to set it for "Text only". Of course, that's not an optimal solution. If you're using a smartphone and so don't have a full-featured browser, well, that's a good reason not to surf the 'net with such a small device.
 
Hi,

Many times a table makes it easy to show and share data in a forum. For example, PriusChat has table tags that makes generation fairly easy. Are there table tags for this forum?

Thiis is what PriusChat table tags look like:
[table=head]
Hdr1 | Hdr2 | Hdr3
data | data | data
[/table]
One caution, both "|" and "," are column separators which can sometimes result in amusing renderings. As a work around, I've used 'literal' tags in the past with a mono-spaced, font.

Hi,

Just testing some "bbcode" examples:

"It is the greatest, believe me."

Ordinary line with extra white space.
Code:

Since the 'table' tag does not render, the best option is to generate tables using 'code'. Not trivial but I think OpenOffice functions can handle it.

Forums often can be sorted by time stamp, earliest first or latest comment first. Or they can be shown with replies in context. Right now, if I reply to the first (by date) comment on this thread, my reply gets pushed to the bottom. Makes it hard to follow a conversation.
 
@Cypress, speaking with the Forum developers, it seems this is one area our software is lacking.

I would suggest using the @+usermane function as well as the reply feature to help follow the conversation.

Sorry I didn't have better news.

You should just use DISQUS or TAPATALK.
 
The ignore button causes a lot of confusion. Other forums still show that someone was posted and even their name in a quote but the content is hidden. Hiding only content is preferable to me because you cans till follow the flow but not be bothered with the nonsense.

I understand that seeing the username may be preferable, but the intention of the ignore function is to remove the user from your experience of the website. If you want to see them, you cannot ignore them. Otherwise, the only option is to mentally ignore the content.
 
On the Monthly Plug-In Sales page, you say January 2017 (instead of 2018) sales will be reported on February 1, 2018 (correct).
Same mistake at the end of the sentence - you say that Ford and BMW will report their info on February 2, 2017 (instead of 2018.)

The real bug is that spell-check doesn't call out those dates as being non-existent.
 
Here's a feature that I never expected: When I tried to post my essay "How to Promote the Hydrogen Economy Hoax", I got an error message that I had exceeded the forum's word limit of 10,000 words per post! So I broke that into two posts.

However, there does seem to be a bug there, because my word processor says it's only 2432 words. (Well, I think most people would say the word "only" doesn't belong there... ;) )

I'm not really objecting, as perhaps any essay that long should be broken into two or more parts when posted to a public forum. But I was rather startled when it said I had exceeded a 10,000 word count; that means it would be more than ~20 pages if printed in an average paperback book! Yeah I can get wordy, but not that wordy!

All in all, though, not something that should come up very often.

I completely agree, the Ignore feature goes too far in removing any trace of the Ignored person. I did use it for one person, but before long I had to "un-ignore" them because the Ignore feature even removes bits of what they said quoted in another person's post, so you can't follow the conversation at all.

Maybe this is what they mean when they say "Too much of a good thing."
