I performed the seasonal wheel & tire swap today, so took a couple pictures of the inner sidewall clearance to the strut tower to sanity check my earlier response. Here is a 195/55 R16 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 on 16"x6.5" Electric Revolite wheels:
While the sidewalls bow out a bit, there appears to be a reasonable amount of clearance for slightly wider tires without rubbing.
Meanwhile, here is a 205/45 R17 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on 17"x7" Roulette Spoke wheels:
The Michelins provide a thicker rim protection than other tires, which reduces the clearance to the strut. I could have sworn it was much closer than that when I originally fitted them, but I still prefer a bit more clearance.
