Started pulling a hub off to swap them for -0.5° crash hubs. Pulled the brake caliper and there is the hub part number. It looked awfully familiar...
Yep, my SE came from the factory with crash hubs, contrary to what the 2019 and 2023 parts catalogs say.
Mumble grumble. Who wants to buy some crash hubs? What, you all already have them?
Since the strut didn't have much still holding it on, I took it off to measure it. I didn't have a deep 18mm socket, so didn't pull the spring off.
SE front strut is about 10mm longer than an Ice F56 shock. Spring perch appears to be same height above hub. The shock is 10mm shorter travel than an F56 Koni FSD, the only f56 that I have body length for. Add on the extra length, bottoming occurs 20mm higher on the SE than an ICE car.
So, height is gained on the SE by springs with shocks changed to suit. ICE shocks should go on without much trouble and will retain the ride height. They'll result in the shocks being more prone to topping out with stock SE springs. If I use them, I'd add a spacer to keep travel the same.
I suspect the front springs are completely different to any other Mini. They are about the wire size of F55 springs, but I'm pretty sure they are longer. Rear springs may be from the F54 parts bin.
Tomorrow, I'll reduce the toe.
I gave it a quick alignment check before and after putting it on blocks. The lack of bump steer is downright impressive.
