No AM Radio

The whole point of the Doppler shift is that it happens naturally.
But range speeds at which the pedestrian warning sound is active is so slow that the natural Doppler-effect would be too minimal to be noticed. However, it would be extremely impressive to hear a high-speed Doppler-effect coming from a slow-speed car. The catch is that the unnatural Doppler-effect would work only if the shift from rising to falling Jetsons' frequency occurs at the instant the car passes the designated listener.

Just got the software updated at the dealership. I lost of my button presets and the beloved AM radio. Now to see what else I have to recode.

The whole point of the Doppler shift is that it happens naturally. The Jetsons noise is an ideal sound for noticing change in relative speed, I think because the oscillating sound amplifies the Doppler shift.

There are two options for a car noise: 1) tempo change to match vehicle speed (observable by occupants), and 2) Doppler shift to indicate position to observers outside of the vehicle.

The audio I posted has vehicle-speed changes (#1), which when I think about EVs doesn't really make sense. The current SE pedestrian warning is a constant tempo (so #2), isn't it? Unfortunately for experimentation the pedestrian warning cuts out at 25 mph (or so) making it hard to recognize impact of Doppler shift.

I think picking the mid-range sound of the Jetsons car is the way to maximize Doppler shift results.
Either would sound better than all the “white noise” reverse warnings now, which to me sound like de-barked dogs.

Let us know if the screen saver is gone. And if I may burden you, can you share a pic of the current version screen?

No clock screensaver, but I should poke around more of the menus. You can turn the screen entirely off.
But you never had the analog clock screensaver in your post-2021 SE, right? Or did you have it before the update and then it went away?

Can Bimmercode activate the clock screensaver in a 2022-23 SE? Perhaps the SE doesn't have enough computing power to display an analog clock due to the chip shortage. Just kidding--there's no excuse for deleting this attractive feature.

My analog clock screensaver went away when I got my software update as part of my 2-year service. Because the clock was always there 30 seconds after I pressed the Menu button, I didn't know it was something that could be deactivated/activated.

On my 30-mile trip home from the dealer I called the Iconic SE's MINI Concierge to find out how to get the clock back. They escalated me to a MINI support group who then escalated me to a BMW support group. I was on my phone trying to solve this problem for 45 minutes--I pulled over each time they came back after putting me on hold for a while. Minutes before I reached home, BMW figured out that I had to activate the screen saver.

Here's how the screensaver (clock) is set up in my 2021 SE:
  1. My MINI
  2. System Settings
  3. Display
  4. Control Display
  5. Screensaver (the last entry on the Control Display menu)
  6. Select one of these options: Off, After 30s, After 60s, After 120s
  7. Exit the menu system
  8. Press the Menu button and wait the set amount of time for the screensaver (clock)

My versions are 002.162 so not worth the trouble of removing the fog light switch and trying to remember all the coding I did…

Well I think the acoustical lock signal is still present, but no sound on unlock. Argh. The beeps annoy me.

AM radio is back after coding it.
You wrote you had both KW and MW activ before. Did you make both KW and MW activ again or did you follow the advice you gave me and set just MW activ? If you made both activ, did you still have to Personalize your menu to display the AM radio option? After turning off KW and setting MW to activ, I had to Personalize my menu to display the AM radio option.

I made MW & KW both active, AM was enabled without having use the personalize my menu. Might be different for the NBT EVO headunit on 22+ models.

Yesterday's programming at the dealership was the sunset of my telematics (3G) and they were kind enough to top off the washer fluid free of charge.

Looks like that URL is for subscribers only. It only displays the article just long enough to wonder how that woman can type on a keyboard.

Forum members have asked how well the SE's secret AM radio works. For the first time since I used Bimmercode to activate the AM radio, I drove out of town and discovered how it is designed to limit problems with reception due to a weak radio signal: by not offering to play stations with weak signals.

The secret AM radio displays a list of the frequencies (not the call-letters) of a few strong AM radio stations. You can select a station only from this list. It initially displayed a list 5 frequencies. When I was 20 miles west of town, the list was reduced to just a single frequency.

However, the AM radio did not interrupt the de-listed station to which I had been listening as I drove out of town. It continued to play that station and I didn't detect any difference in the quality of the signal. The line at the top of the display continued to report I was listening to the frequency that was no longer on the list.

Had I tuned away from that de-listed station, I wouldn't be able to return to it until I got closer to town (unless I had programmed a button to select that AM radio station).

Fortunately for me, the sports-talk station that covers the Michigan Wolverines , the station I activated the AM radio to hear, is the strongest local station.

BTW, because the Wolverine football team is so hot right now, I put a 50-year old ashtray I bought new for $7 on ebay and in just a few days the highest bid has already exceeded $400! I hope those bidders are for real. I hope my Wolverines are for real!

That is the behavior I had with AM in my 2015 ICE Hardtop, and it's also how the FM radio behaves.

Thanks! My FM stations are all so strong that they never disappear from the list, so I didn't know about this behavior.
I forgot to mention, there's also manual tuning so you can go to any frequency in the band. I've done that with FM because I live near the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin and on a good night I can pull in some Wisconsin FM stations.
