Gift from Elon for those that reserved Model 3 first day

I figured I'd start a thread on this and also try out the new forum. Has anyone heard anything more about the gift Elon talked about for those that reserved a Model 3 on the first day? I know there was a lot of speculation on what the gift would be, but nothing from Tesla officially.

Welcome to the Forum, Kdawg!

A lot of people assumed the Model 3 design sketch was the gift. Have to wonder if customers who've taken delivery have gotten the real thing yet. Haven't seen mention of it.

I got my sketch well before any mention of a gift for day 1 reservation holders. Also, the sketch was sent to everyone, not just day 1 reservation holders. Personally, I don't count the deliveries so far as "real deliveries", since they are to employees with NDAs. Once someone outside of Tesla, who is allowed to talk about it, gets one, then they should ask about the "gift".

Good point. I'm guessing employees and investors didn't have to stand in line, so maybe no gift. Though, they should probably get the gift anyway for their role in early roll out.

What sort of gift, realistically speaking, would you like to get?

I guess we would need to come up w/a reasonable dollar value first. At the high end, I'd love to get the paint or wheel upgrade. At the low end, how about a Tesla cargo net for the trunk.

Or free Supercharging for a year, maybe?

Personally, I'd go for anything unique on the car that denotes a "Day one...waited a long time guy", normally I'd say a unique color fits this bill - other than all colors that aren't black are scientifically proven to be sub par. That really isn't its own "gift", but I think having something a simple as a slightly different tail assembly, or a rear Tesla emblem that lit up would be swell.

...says I'm special, and also probably helps the re-sale down the road as compared to a "day 2 or later" model

It seems to me the employee example of first deliveries being a “gift” probably comparable value to the “gift” for non-employee 1st day reservations. Most likely not something of transferable monetary value.

I’m non-employee, classic Model S P85 owner since March 2013, traded up for 2017 90D in July 2017, stood in line in Fremont on morning of 1st Model 3 reservations, live in Fremont...I dream about a “gift”; but no expectations.

So is thing going to be the “Waiter” edition? Badge...

There have been a lot of very silly suggestions about what those waiting in line the first day might get as something "special". A special badge on the car is at least possible, and I think would be wonderful. But I doubt that's what Tesla will do. Adding complexity to the Model 3 production process, by adding an option for a special badge, is the #1 thing Tesla wants to avoid right now. Production needs to be kept as simple as possible so it can be ramped up as fast as possible.

A free HUD in the mail.

I was one of the HUD believers.

I'm still hoping that Tesla will change policy on that within a few months, and start offering a HUD as an option for the Model 3, even if they have to start out with it being a service center installed option for an off-the-shelf HUD unit.

Maybe I'm just more optimistic -- or deluded -- than you, Josh. ;)
