You need to claim CA rebate by yourself and if your family income is more than 30k you are screwed.
Actually, to get the rebate you need to make less than $300,000 for married filing jointly, $150K if single. If you make less than 300% of the federal poverty rate you can get an additional $2000! That’s only grossing @$75K for a family of 4. @35K for couples. Your total rebate for the Clarity could be up to $3,500. I hope that might help clarify. :)

FYI, NY doesn't have any income requirements for their NYSERDA rebate program which is $1,700 for the Clarity. There is also a bill being proposed to exempt electric cars from sales tax which would be a big discount. It is in the early stages. I don't think I can wait. I just got a quote that is about $200 less than CaryLyn paid. The impression that I got here in NY is that the Clarities are not selling fast. Our gas taxes are not as high as CA and I bet charging stations are harder to come by compared to CA.

qtpie, you didn't go through internet sales at South Bay Honda in Milpitas? We were working with another salesperson there and the price quoted was ridiculous. Almost the same time frame as you.
back in 2014 when I was shopping around the bay for fully loaded Honda Odyssey, the same dealer also gave ridiculously high prices over email.

Hey Rich in CH, I bought mine at Southpoint in January before they became more plentiful. I got $1000 below sticker and also had to pay the doc fee. I love the car and have no regrets. Looks like you got a green one. I’ll watch for it around town. Haven’t seen many.

Yeah, I pretty much got this one the day they unloaded it from the car carrier at Southpoint. I keep looking for other Clarities (Claritys feels more wrong) around town, but they always turn out to be Accords. I haven't seen another one yet around here yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Can we apply for this CA rebate now or we have to wait until tax-filing time next year? Thanks.

Here in New England I am being offered the following lease on a standard model: $189/mo for 36 months with $2999 down. Separately MA gives a $2500 rebate.
I think this is a good deal but wanted to check in with the forum.

That's a great deal - I'm also in MA and got the $279/mo 36 months with $3k down deal that's offered in the Northeast CARB states. With tax etc. it's $305/month.

Here in Michigan, we paid $1000 less than MSRP for our Touring and got the dealer to include a few hundred dollars in accessories for no extra charge. The "deal-sealer" for us was the willingness of the dealer to give us an astonishingly high amount for our trade in. Very unlike other vehicle purchases in the past where we didn't even include a trade because of the usual dealer low-ball values. I think it's because my wife is an ace negotiator. Anyway, our sales experience was good until we hit the finance person whose mission in life is to extract big extra money from customers. He desperately tried to sell us an off-brand service package and started at a $2500 price. After what seemed like ages, he ended at $794 (for the same thing!). We didn't bite of course, but I do wonder how many folks purchase it from him at $2500?

Lol.... not me!

Just stop dreaming about getting the Touring model under $36k OTD this year. Maybe wait for a few more years.

Just trying to confirm all information and not make any assumptions. I just started my research on Clarity pricing so have no "dreams" on pricing.

As soon as you get your license plates, you can send in your application. You can download it from the state's clean air vehicle web site (there's a link on the DMV web site if you search for EV or Clean Air Vehicle).

Hello Everyone, I just became the proud and super excited owner of a Clarity Touring in Gray this past Sunday. I live in Southern California and got my car at Long Beach Honda. I got an incredibly good deal that even the "biggest dealer" (Norm Reeves) would not give me. No add ons at financing. Totally smooth and friendly process. In and out in 2 hours. It all seemed very straightforward and honest. My sales person was Manny Villalobos and the financing guy was Alan Burns. I am thrilled about how much I paid and all the perks that will come along in SoCal. (I got one of the best pricest I have seen throughout this thread, not the lowest, but definitely lower than most).
Hi, how much was the OTD?

We just picked up our touring model (in steel) today. It was $35,623 OTD, excluding taxes. We got the body side molding, all season floor mats, door edge film, splash guards and the center console mat (included in that price). We do still plan to add tint to the windows, but otherwise-he has every option we felt was needed. Other than the blue car option, that is.

Here is my buying experience:
Since i had about a month to buy my next car, i had a lot of time to read a few forums on car buying tactics and emailed 7-8 dealers for OTD quotes. Did not pick up any calls and only negotiated over emails. Got a quote from a dealer that seemed to be the lowest i could get in that area. Contacted a car buying concierge that has a service that will take your written quote from a dealer and try to find you a lower price for the same features. They then split the difference in savings with you if they can find some or there is a $0 fee for their service. They got back to me and said they couldn't improve upon the quote i had from the dealer within 100 miles of the dealership.

Got an appointment with the dealer and showed up with the quote papers printed out. Since this was an internet quote, i did not get the same salesperson who had provided the online quote. The salesperson i got took the papers and went to the 'manager' to confirm that this was a price they could give me (even though this was an OTD quote). He came back with a higher number and said they had forgotten to add delivery and documentation fee in the OTD price. Unbeknownst to him, i had a separate print out of the OTD price broken down which did include these fees that he mentioned. I guess he did not know the format that their internet sales people send these quotes in. From that point on, they started the time wasting tactics car dealers are famous for. I don't think they were too happy selling me the car at the quoted price. The finance manager that was then assigned to me did not seem too happy either or was just generally 'non-caring' about selling me this car.

Then began the scare tactics of selling add-ons for scratch and paint maintenance, tire insurance and 3rd party extended warranty. Since this is a relatively new technology for honda/me, i was interested in a warranty and was quoted 3rd party $2560 extended warranty for 6yr/100,000 miles. I showed them the Hyannis Honda quote that i picked up from this forum. He was very skeptical of it and did not even offer to match it but instead tried to convince me that you can't buy Honda care from a dealer if you aren't buying the car from them. After declining all other add-ons, we were asked to wait in the waiting area for about an hour. Finally between the sales person and the finance person, we finished the deal and drove away in our new car.

TL;DR:
Got the Solar Metallic Silver Clarity Touring for ~$34500 OTD (incl. registration, state tax and other fees) in NJ with door edge films, splash guards and wheel locks included. PM me if you want actual names of any of the research tools, dealer name, etc that i used. Wasn't very happy with the dealer experience, but worth it for this price.
