Canadian prices have been announced and...whoa!

I pre-ordered on June 3 (Ultimate AWD in shooting star) and my November 5 update email shows a build in January, and that my order is number 227. Pleasantly surprised by the $60k plus freight / PDI pricing, since I was expecting this trim to come in around $70k at least. If it was possible to change my order, I'd probably go with RWD Ultimate in a different colour (RWD for the extra range, colour change since I'm also worried about maintaining the matte paint finish), but I'm still happy overall with the choice.

When I ordered I was hoping to take delivery before the end of the year, so now I need to find something else to drive over the winter, since my fun car will not be used over the winter. I had thought about picking up a Kona EV to tide me over, but now the pricing of those looks crazy high compared to the value the Ioniq offers. Their values will likely crater in the used market.

The problem is that there is no choice to get the RWD with the Ultimate package.

Ah, OK, thanks for pointing that out. I guess it would have been the Preferred Long Range then. But it seems like you get a lot of extra value for only $8k more by going Ultimate AWD.
 
My first choice would have been the single motor trim for the increased milage and smaller wheels ($$$) but I also like my toys so that version with the Ultimate package would have been ideal. No such luck... initially anyway.

Are you worried your dealer may act like many US dealers and lard on a "market adjustment" to fatten their profit? Or are all Canadian dealers more polite?

I don't think Canadian dealers are allowed to do that. Even if you get a GT3 allocation from a Porsche dealer, I'm pretty sure the Canadian ones don't / can't apply ADM.

I want the Preferred Long-Range version except it does not include the “Two-Way Onboard Charger”! The important features to me were the 300 mile range, fast charging ability, ability to plug in to a 120V outlet (2-Way Onboard Charger) and some towing ability. I also liked the front seat leg rests. Can the 2-Way charging be added as an option? Is there any towing package option? What is the towing capacity of the preferred Long-Range version? I don’t want to give up these features just because I don’t want AWD. I hope there might be some changes for the US market?

Like you I'm looking at a tide me over SantaFe PHEV like Hyundai has available in Canada but here with the US build variant. The US MSRP hasn't been set on the IONIQ 5 and my zip code bumped from the initial distribution list so my tide me over time frame will be much longer than yours. Either way the PHEV will resell better, offers limited EV range and will be an awesome winter car as the bigger electric motors are in tandem with the AWD with a front to rear locking diff for the slippery stuff better than others who stuff the motor on a axil by itself. Looking forward to the day the IONIQ 5 will be here but the reality is I have to drive until then.

I thought about picking up a used Model 3, but it's just hard to stomach the used prices right now, and the knowledge that by the time I want to unload it, car production may have normalized and I'll take a big hit. I also don't think I could live with the Tesla interior, lack of CarPlay, even for a couple of months.

But that doesn't settle the debate. IF the Ultimate counts as a "trim", its cost is too high, and it won't be eligible, so it won't show on the list. If it is not a trim, but an option/package, it also won't show on the list, since the list doesn't include other options like ski rack, tow hitch, etc...

They don't list trim levels that didn't qualify.

So we still don't know, or is my logic wrong?
 
I think it's good news, since Hyundai clearly lists Ultimate as a package on the Preferred trim. The Preferred AWD qualifies for the rebate, so the Preferred AWD with Ultimate package should also qualify.

Ya, I think it's pretty clear. It qualifies. You can't expect the government to publish full lists of every possible variation of trim and accessories especially those that DON'T qualify.. The language is clear. "Package" is the magic word.
