I do, however, fear that the top trim and maybe the top two trims will fail to qualify by going over the top-end limits.

Yes Doug Ford put the kybosh on what was the best rebate program in Canada ($14K)
Not all trim levels are included in the Canada Federal rebate program, just those under the cap of $55K;)

  • a vehicle with six seats or less, where the base model Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $45,000; and

I suspect a brief appearance on a website won't do the trick. How many of the low-priced/rebate-qualifying vehicles does a manufacturer have to sell to qualify all trim levels of that vehicle for the rebate? Is one enough? Does Hyundai even care?

It was enough for Tesla to have an off-menu stripped trim.

I just got an email from my dealer asking me to confirm the model and specs and advising that the estimated arrival date is February/March 2022.

Compared to the Kona EV pre-order process I feel like I'm being lavished with attention. I got a congratulatory call upon ordering, a $10 gift card "just because' and now this email.

I know that around Christmas they'll let me know that the Canadian price is $70 000 and that'll be the end of the relationship!

Does anyone know if the hitch can be ordered with any trim?

BTW, I just called one dealer who is mentioned on the preorder list, guy was completely clueless knew nothing. When I asked when they expect demo vehicle… he said maybe in 4-6 months. I don’t know, but these guys really don’t get it, in my opinion.

His 4 to 6 months is a reasonable if optimistic time frame based on Hyundai's publically released estimates. What's truly optimistic is you thinking that any vehicles have been set aside for test-drives. ;)

My hope would be that the "mid 2022" dates would be for those ordered later and going forward. I suspect that the "early 2022" date still applies to the first tranche of orders. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, call me an optimist … or maybe just as someone who will not order 60K car, on completely new platform and design, without sitting in one or driving one. Is that really the new standard, or is it just you?

Seriously though, I hate that we're expected to commit to purchase something that we can't see, touch or try in advance. It's crazy. Unfortunately that's a fact of life for early adopters of scarce vehicles. It's nuts.
When I ordered my Kona EV at least I was able to sit in a gas Kona just to try it on for size but for the Ioniq 5 you'll need to buy a ticket to Europe. Again...crazy.

It’s only a fact of life if you accept it. There are brands which do it right….they have demo cars, prices posted and it’s easy to order online. And imagine you get a pretty accurate date when you get the car. So if they can surely mighty Hyundai should too … and no I am not about talking Tesla.
 
Because this current non-sense they try to pull will not fly forever. Too bad that people are willing to put up with that and letting them to feel they can get away with anything right now. It should be illegal to take reservation money without giving delivery month and full pricing structure incl. financing, etc.

My sarcastic point was that they haven't delivered a single one of these cars on this side of the ocean, so they have no reason to bend over backwards to sell this car. People who want them to be nice only have to wait until there are unsold Ioniq 5s piling up in dealers' back lots.

I was doing some quick currency conversions from Australian dollars and British pounds to Canadian dollars and some of the top trims came out to between $80-90K Canadian!

I know conversions are never that direct but holy moly.
