I wad actually referring to your want of a test drive before pulling the trigger. I think they'll just sell it out from under you if you seem skittish.

Regarding the (lack of) a rear wiper: cars spend a lot of there time stopped or a low speeds. No amount of airflow will clear a window at a stop light or crawling in traffic. And snow, salt, dust and mud don't care much about airflow either. In short, designing a car with a stubby hatchback without a wiper is just ignoring reality.
 
Just like I can't understand why Elon won't offer a head-up display in front of the driver on the Model 3 (make it expensive if you must), I can't understand why Hyundai won't offer an extra-cost rear wiper. Charge a little and sell a ton--or charge a lot and the small number of wipers ordered will still generate a profit. Introducing the line's top status model: the Hyundai Ioniq 5 RW.
 
Hyundai allow the rear view camera to be accessed at a touch of the screen. Although at a lower line of sight, it's a wide angle and protected from the weather; this is a viable solution to the problem. I rarely have to clean the rear view camera on my Kona.

30 seconds on Ontario's salted roads and a rear camera is useless. If you don't feel the need to clean your camera then I can only conclude that you don't drive from December to March or that you never exceed 15 kph.

Oh Ok,I see where you went with my post. Maybe its just me, but I don't see how anybody can buy a car wiithout a test drive. I agree, that they might sell it out from under me, if I seem skittkish, very good point. Will deal with that when the time comes.

I ordered my electric MINI Cooper SE 6 months before deliveries began, then waited almost another 6 months for my car. I was lucky, but not surprised, that the car was everything I hoped it would be: the most fun car I've ever driven.
 
Is anyone else surprised that the Canadian website is still soliciting pre-sales? I would have thought they'd sold out their allotments long ago.

I really like this car, but Hyundai is starting to play with my nerves. I preorder mine June 1st. If they don't release pricing and delivery in October, I will switch to a Tesla.
 
And I was at the EV show in Montreal last week. They would not let us sit in the car. I think they are pushing their luck too far...
 
I just got an email from my dealer asking me to confirm the model and specs and advising that the estimated arrival date is February/March 2022.

Compared to the Kona EV pre-order process I feel like I'm being lavished with attention. I got a congratulatory call upon ordering, a $10 gift card "just because' and now this email.

I know that around Christmas they'll let me know that the Canadian price is $70 000 and that'll be the end of the relationship!
 
Hello, new member here from NB. Following the Ioniq 5 closely and considering a deposit. Currently have a pickup (Honda Ridgeline) that I love but would like to move to an EV. I have a deposit on a Ford F150 Lightning but probably going to be too pricey for me.

I need AWD in any vehicle I buy but also am really keen to take advantage of the federal and provincial EV tax breaks here ($10k combined).

Also quite interested in the ID4. I was surprised to see that the VW ID4 AWD Pro is included on the federal iZEV rebate list. The RWD is also, but it is a big HP and power stepup to the AWD with dual motors. MSRP for that is 49k. I thought for most of these vehicles, stepping up to AWD or a dual motor setup would exclude from the rebate.

Really hoping that there is an AWD Ioniq 5 version that might be eligible for the rebates. Really annoying that there is not even a hint of canadian pricing.

My sentiments exactly. I'm on the reservation list as well for the ultimate in teal green. Hopefully they can price the ioniq 5 the way vw has the id4, as in making the ultimate a 'package' on top of the premier model. This way they can price the premier within rebate limits.

I'm still on the fence though whether I want to continue going forward with Hyundai on another car given the battery debacle.

Welcome! Whatever ev you end up getting I'm sure you're going to be happy with the reduced fuel costs, instant acceleration and the smile it brings to you face. I have reservations in on Ioniq 5, ID4 and the Ariya. if Hyundai is smart they can price the car to have all trims fall within the rebate guidelines.

And there's one of my negatives about the car.
1. Lack of rear wiper
2. Lower ground clearance (comparison to other SUVs)
3. Price ?????
4. It's Hyundai

Seems one would be prudent to pass this up until they put a wiper on it. Then again if the price comes in within incentive prices and the ability to use the backup camera instead is there....the other things could be overlooked :-)

Hyundai: "Rear wipers?!? We don't need no stinkin' rear wipers!" Dealers: "To soften the impact of our $10K 'market adjustment' to the MSRP, we're including a free rubber squeegee with every Ioniq 5."

As long as a manufacturer has one model at or below the qualifying cost to receive the Federal rebate, all trim levels will be included. Hyundai have an Essential trim that they, briefly, had on their website to indicate that this model qualifies. My province used to have a rebate program but it ceased to exist with a change in government.
