This morning "contributed" my additional $400 for an AWD.
Automated response cites 6-8 months for delivery. (i.e. Jan-Mar 2022)
So ... there might be some nearby "slush" to test the AWD.
pucksave:My AWD is still showing Oct delivery, but i paid the $400 on June 11th.
I put a reservation in for an AWD a week or so ago. Also got he April 22 delivery date. Which I'm cool with. FWIW, I was talking to a dealer about the rate of inventory replenishment. Now take this for the noise that it is, but he said the only ID.4s they get are the ones that are reserved, but then the buyer backs out. He was pretty adamant that this was the new way VW was approaching the sales of the ID.4 and if I wanted one (RWD) to place a reservation and keep an eye on dealer stock for a lucky drop, then cancel the reservation if I found one. If I wanted an AWD, the reservation system was the only sure-thing. So that aligns with what you heard.I spoke to VW and they also confirmed 6-8 months for AWD builds and seemed to think that they wouldn't be building AWD for dealer inventory at this point.

FWIW.
According to Cars.com, within 50 miles of me in the Philly/Del/NJ area there are literally (not figuratively)... 10. And that is 5 less than a week or so ago (ask me how I know). So I guess it can be a regional thing, but my experience is that they move wicked fast in this area and when I asked when the new ones come in, I was told they don't. I called it "noise" and your implied intuition about some dealer stock may be correct. But given the current chip shortage and inventory stresses that are making it a seller's market for the ages, I decided to skip it all and just get on a reservation list. I like my current garage, so I can wait. But dang, I am impressed with VW's foray into this market.I suppose that's possible, but there are literally dozens of RWD models available within 50 miles of me. Seems weird that there would be so many cancelled reservations.
Congrats! I think you beat the expectations at this point. Keep us in the loop, there is still hope the chip/parts shortage is being managed by VW and Audi.Just received email from VW. My ProS with gradient package and AWD is built and leaving the factory!

I also received notice my ProS AWD w/Gradient is leaving the factory. The online portal currently shows an Estimated Pickup of : Sep 2021 - Oct 2021. If that holds true, it's 4-8 weeks of shipment plus in US processing.
My dealer is Southeastern CT. I placed my initial reservation September of 2020.
Within the portal:VW confirmed my ID.4 left the factory via email on 28 August.
Today 18 Sept3ember, barely 3 weeks later, I received notice my ID.4 is in the US.
Does anyone know which port East coast VWs would arrive through? NY/NJ ?
I'm curious how long it'll take to get to the dealer.
