Read Battery Capacity Yourself (Autel AP200 Breakthrough)

I was able to update the AP200 to the beta today, and generate a Electric Powertrain Report successfully.

The Battery Pack Capacity of 50.3 Ah matched the results I got using the Vgate adapter last week, and I added that entry to the shared spreadsheet. The only anomaly I saw in the report is that item#378 - OBC AC Low Voltage showed as FAILED. I'm not sure what the exactly means, but I am concerned, since I had a 12v battery failure and replacement in January, and this sounds like it could conceivably relate to that problem.

Not sure that the OBC AC Low Voltage FAILED is something to be concerned about. I had the same and have had no issues with the car. A couple of people here posted txt files of their results and they had the same. MrFixIt's first PDF file post is the only one I've seen that did not show FAILED. His shows that his car was plugged in. I'm wondering if it shows FAILED if not plugged in and charging, but OK if it is.

That is really helpful for me to know. I had seen the PDF that @MrFixit had posted indicating the OBC as NORMAL, and that heightened my concern that the failure on mine could be significant. I think I'll make another report the next time my car is charging, to see if it changes.
 
On a minor side track: I still haven't upgraded to the 64 bit android phone, but while waiting I left the AP200 plugged into the OBD2 connector under the dash while using the car. So while driving, I had several occurrences of strange displays (blue and white snow) on the main dash display as well as the loss of audio followed by the circular logo with dots showing "loading" of the software on the main dash. This was very concerning as I'm just out of warranty. After a few occurrences over the next few days, and more worrying on my part, I removed the AP200 and I've not had an "event" since then. Anyone had a similar experience?

I just checked mine with the car plugged in and charging. The OBC AC Low Voltage was Normal.

Obc stand for
On board charger
So to get an ac reading it should be plugged in
 
I looked at my Powertrain report and did not find OBC AC... items. Ran the report again and no luck, was not there. Finally, I found USA Powertrain report differt from Canada Powertrain report. The canadian version has 196 items vs 409 for USA. I compared the two report in this file.

That's very odd. The vehicles are virtually identical. I can see no reason for this kind of massive difference in the reports.
This just seems like some kind of a bug with Autel's database. I guess you can just use the USA version since it is much more complete.

This is what I have done to get the full report. I choosed USA instead of Canada and the USA report seemed OK for my Canadian Clarity. Like you said, I don't think there is a lot of difference between VCU's version. The 2 biggest difference are no electric seat adjustment for Canadian Touring model but we have HV Battery heater to help with cold weather.

We have been suspicious that a 12V disconnect could possibly re-initiate some sort of re calibration of the battery capacity. Your experience could help confirm or deny this. It is also possible that whatever was done with the on-board charger resulted in a re-calibration.

It's interesting that Honda re-calibrates starting with a full-capacity reading. They could have started with a reading of zero and calibrated 'up' rather than starting with a full reading and calibrating 'down', but maybe a zero reading would wreak havoc on other systems that use this value...

I tried the car now for about 1k miles afrter my initial test and here is my repot and it showed 54.9 ah
Is this a reliable reading? Or i should test after another 1k miles?
I'll test other 2 cars tomorrow and give a feedback

My instinct is that you are still getting an artificially high reading because of your battery disconnect. I believe it will take multiple full charge cycles to recalibrate, rather than miles driven. I suggest making sure that you operate over the entire range of the battery for multiple cycles.
Your other cars will be informative, and may educate us all.
 
I had my 12 volt battery replaced on March 1. Because the battery was removed, I had to re-setup several things in my car. I did my first battery test on March 14 and got a reading of 51.94. Since then I have driven quite a few miles and tested the battery reading several times and always get the same reading. My car has about 13,500 miles on it so I think the reading is fairly accurate.

Im surprised with the other cars results
They r both 2018
One with 10k miles showed 54
The other with 14k miles showed 55
I think as u said they needs multiple charging cycles to get an accurate and correct measurement
I'll retest after a while after multiple charging cycles

These results do seem surprising. Can you elaborate on your use cases?

You mentioned that the 'Grey' vehicle had some work done (recently, within 1K miles) with the 12V battery system.
I assume that the black and green have not had any work done...

How are these driven?
'grey', 'black', and 'green' show SOC states of 16%, 2%, and 71%.
'black' appears to have it's ICE running (1200 RPM), but the others are not.

Are they driven almost exclusively as hybrid vehicles with very little charging from the wall, or do they get a lot of use in EV mode? Is it possible for you to estimate what percentage of the overall mileage is in EV mode? (or, do you track the total amount of gas used - this would allow an estimate of EV miles...).

You are either doing something remarkable to retain 'factory' battery performance, or there is something that is yielding a false indication. Either of these scenarios are interesting.

Your readings of 54.0, 55.0, an 54.9 are substantially better. You will notice that there are 2 other "outliers" who also reported 55.0. These are @alter, and @JimK who also have 'factory' battery capacity with 2018 models and >20K miles. Those are definitely suspect too.

I live in Jordan and we import the cars from US and Canada
The grey one is the first car arrived and i charge it with the oem charger only (12 Amp /240v) it take about 7 hours to be fully charged and i drive it on ev and hv modes
The green and black charged few times and i drive the almost on ev and hv charging modes

The grey car had an issue with the plug in system that we thought the problem with the OBC and so we've changed it then i knew that the problem was just the battery charger software update and i did it last week

It just hit me that this is likely the common link... When these vehicles make the trip across the ocean, they undoubtedly have their 12V battery disconnected for an extended period of time. When did they arrive?

There is a parameter that you can read with the AP200 that contains the "Distance Traveled Since Battery Connected". It is not located in the Electric Powertrain, but rather in the "AT" Control Module. It would be interesting to know this value for the vehicles with anomalous capacity readings.

I think it is becoming clear that 12V battery disconnects result in loosing the capacity calibration. What remains unclear are the necessary conditions to get it back.
 
The PDI, page 3, has two fuses placed back into the under hood fuse box during the predelivery inspection. These removal of these tow fuses before the initial shipment from Japan is how the 12V charge is retained during the initial shipping period.

It is easy to test if disconnecting the 12V battery causes the battery calibration/capacity data to be lost.

I am not volunteering to do the experiment.

I have yet to post the battery capacity value for our 2018 Clarity because I am seeing some worrisome readings. A few weeks ago when I got the AP200 working with the beta and got a Vlink to work with the Car Scanner app, the battery capacity reading was 50.82 Amps. This is for 2018 Clarity Touring (10/2017 build date, purchased 2/24/2018)with 7954 miles at the time. The EV mileage is more than 90% of the total. The car is usually recharged at 25%-30% SOC and charged to 100% (about once a week). The dealer did not record the battery capacity at purchase. On 10/16/2018 (2307 miles) the dealer measured 54.6 amps for the battery capacity.

Today, at 8128 miles, the battery capacity is 50.72 amps. So, I see a change in battery capacity and a downward trend (3.9 amps in 29 months, 5821 miles, and 132 charge cycles). That is worrisome for a Clarity with so few miles and charge cycles).
