With less than 3K miles on my newly leased 2021 Kona EV SEL, I just joined the pity party with Check Electric Vehicle System Error Message. UGH!!!!

It appeared after I charged it at home. Car won't start. The 12V battery is good (lights go on and radio). Had to get it towed to nearby dealership for diagnostic testing. I will need to leave it there for more than a week to get tested (they say that they are really backed up)!!!

Although the dealership says at point of sale that they offer loaner cars and shuttle service, in truth: "all the loaner cars are out" and "shuttle service is closed due to COVID". Thumb's down on both.

I checked my VIN and it is not subject to any recall.

Any best guesses on what I am in for (re: results from diagnostic test)?

  3. Probably a new traction battery, keep us updated.

  4. What is the percent level the car was charged to before the error occurred? (example: 240 V, 7kW 20% to 80%)

96% charged (I left it charging overnight).

  6. You aren't alone. Several other 2021 Kona electric owners are sitting and waiting.
Check the other thread for "dicsussion" on the underlying issue
2021 Hyundai Kona has same battery issues as 2019-2020 models
