Have noticed that my 2024 Kona is using a lot more electricity this winter than my previous 2019 Kona. Summer consumption was pretty much the same. During summer city only driving I would typically see 9 to 10 km/kWh with both the 2024 and 2019.

However during the past December and January, driving almost the exact city routes, the 2024 Kona is getting only 4 km/kWh, sometimes even less. This is with the climate control set to "Auto" and "Driver Side" and with the heated seat and steering wheel on for only the first few minutes. It has been cold, -5 to -15 Celsius, colder than the past several winters, but both the 2024 and 2019 were parked in a fairly warm underground garage.

So, I began to wonder if my 2024 Kona was fitted with a heat pump, as the specs call for. Does anyone know where the heat pump is located and if I can physically verify that it is there? I know this is a long shot, but would not be the first time that a car was built and shipped with some incorrect options.

I would be interested to know if other forum members have noticed such high consumption this winter with their 2024 or 2025 Konas. Thanks.

Good question, one I will have to do a little more digging into. My service manual source doesn't yet have too much info re: schematics etc on the 2024 or 2025 model years.
They changed the components location from Gen 1, harder to find now, I will ask the tech next time I am at the dealer.
I guess the only way to tell is use the energy consumption screen...anything under ~ 1.2 kW with the heat on is a sign that the HP is working as it should, as the PTC will draw upwards of 3kW. My 2025 MY typically draws ~ 1kW starting and lowers when the cabin temp is satisfied (Van Island winter temps).
Another indication of HP operation is the soft high pitched "whistle" sound when you first turn on the climate control at cold ambient temps.
That sound should ease off after a couple of minutes of operation.

Well, easier said than done.... I have occasionally seen this screen, a pane on the right side, but did not consciously make it happen. It sort of appeared at the time. And now, I spent 10 minutes trying to bring up this screen to no avail. Also checked the manual but could not find the path. Would appreciate help in bringing it up. Thanks.

Sure no problem...

Select the EV sub menu (on mine its on the right), push the "button" on the bottom (highlighted in blue in the picture - with the uneven vertical bars) - can select EV economy history or Electricity Use.
Try this video for easy infotainment features on the new Hyundai ccNc screens.

BTW, no "heat" button anymore in the climate control system as you are aware of. It has been replaced with "Auto" which means it will default to a hybrid configuration in cold temps- some PTC and some HP. This morning my consumption @ minus 3 degrees for climate was 3.3 kW until I lowered the fan speed to 2, then the system gradually lowered to ~ 1 kW as the cabin temp differential was satisfied. There is a setting to reduce the default fan speed to low (push the Auto button a couple times, the light will go from low/med high for fan speed) but I found fan speed set at low (level 1) with the auto button was not high enough to accomplish the job, so I used the fan speed selector toggle switch instead to get to level 2 .:)

I have a brand new (4 weeks old) 2025 Kona EV Limited. Our temps here have hovered in the teens for weeks. I've noted in my garage I can't get it to charge more then 190 miles at 100% charge. When driving it drops like a rock as well. However, when taking trips to the town we shop in which is about 35 miles away I average around 3.8-4.0kwh at 60mph speeds which isn't shabby at all. The day I took delivery it charged to its 100% at 261miles. Never saw that again. I'm hoping it gets back to the higher numbers as I have a long trip to do in May with it and don't want to be stopping a ton to keep it charged up.

Thanks electriceddy, for that useful information. I had a challenge to find the EV sub-screen, which had moved itself out of sight, to the left of the visible screen. Probably happened when we enabled the Apple Car Play icon. I now know it is possible to move icons to a different position, so all is good.
In following the consumption, I observed pretty well the same power used variations depending on temperature differential, fan speed and so on. Makes sense. Thanks also for the link to the infotainment video. Learned a lot from it. ......Rick
