"shift/press/switch drive and go" Is exactly how my wife and probably 75% or more Clarity owners drive the car. You are overthinking this. This web site is visited by people who are interested in more than just "shift/press/switch drive and go" We do not represent the majority of Clarity owners. The discussions into the munitia of the Clarity are not what the average Clarity owner is interested in. They just get in and drive. No offense but you don't seem to be happy with a car with modern features. Get a non hybrid Chevy or Ford and relax.

Agreed! I wonder what percentage of users know all the settings, functions, and options available on their smart phones? Doesn’t seem to keep our vast population from being happy users...

I like your analogy. I expect that the percentage of smartphone geeks is similar to the percentage of Clarity geeks.

I prefer the term "safe and rational mode" :D and yes, I drive like that (typically get high forties mpg in HV; best loop, I got 52 mpg going 50-55 mph!).
I like the "Safe and Sane Mode", or "Save the Planet Mode", "Save the Vehicle Mode" or my favorite, "Save my Wallet Mode". Every one of these can be canceled by the "Save 5 minutes Mode".

I drive geriatric mode in Sport just for the fact that want to dial in all the regen braking and have it stay. It only takes a few minutes for my foot to remap to the new pedal response. I can reliably and repeatedly get over 50 mpg on any trip that I take in HV move. I can also usually get 50-55 miles on the charge also.

So my favorite mode is "Save my Wallet Mode". If I need to get there 5 minutes earlier, I just leave 5 minutes earlier.

You don’t “have” to do any of the things in your first paragraph above. Some here choose to because they enjoy it and feel they’re accomplishing a touch more mpg. Maybe they are.

And as for your last sentence I quoted above...I absolutely CAN say it is exactly what you say it isn’t. It’s exactly how my wife drives it. Rarely does she change modes for any reason. She just drives the car normal. Sometimes the battery bottoms out. It still works just fine. And she overall likes it. I fiddle with it a bit more. But because I choose to, not because I have to.

My wife is exactly the same as she is the primary driver. The only thing she adapted to very quickly was plugging it in when she gets home. She loves it when it is in electric mode. She only knows that when it is cold, turn on the heat and when it is hot, turn on the AC. I just love to fiddle with everything to get absolutely the best economy and it drives her nuts.

And think about all the extra things to think about when driving a manual transmission. But anybody that has driven one for any amount of time will tell you that after a bit of time, no extra thought goes into it and it becomes its own joy. The same goes for any car full of tech.

For me, that can also be called: "Lower my Stress Mode" . Just relax and enjoy the ride. And speaking of "Save the Planet Mode", which I think the vast majority of us Clarity drivers subscribe to, I would recommend all of us watch the new series on Netflix "Our Planet" narrated by Richard Attenborough. Very movingly and beautifully shows us what is at stake.
