I've been redrilling 5x114.3 wheels. There are few 15s that can fit over rear calipers. I have some used SSRs. The wheels that could fit need the calipers ground for clearance, fortunately in a low stressed area. I have never managed to get a wheel clearance drawing from any manufacturer, so it is suck it and see. 15x8 ET45 with 205/50 feels and handles great, 225/45 should be similar. 15x9 with 245s needs offset of around 32 and that hurts steering feel, but moar grips! Smaller diameter means better acceleration and slight lowering without screwing roll centres. I run 15s for autocross, 16s for daily.
Are you using the Kosei 16s? I can't find anything in the 5x112 in 16 that's lightweight, except for the OZ at tirerack, but they're really pricey.

I still have OE summers on factory 16s. Winters are Autec, about 17lb IIRC. The Koseis are in the basement and will probably get my next set of summers. I also have a set of BBS RG-RG 16x7 et48. Originally VW fit, just needed different rings. Those are spendy new, picked mine up cheap.

Tyre Reviews has some interesting data points about how wheel weight impacts performance...

I watched that yesterday, and I was surprised at how little difference it made in actual times. I was also surprised at how he still came to the conclusion that it's worth thousands of dollars to upgrade.
