My 2021 has cornering lights that are a separate function from the fog lights, and the cornering lights come on automatically when cornering if the headlights are on. I'm not sure if they involve the fog lights or the scuttles or both, since I just see an illuminated area off to the side but am not outside to see what lights actually come on.

I know the 2022 LCI changes eliminated the fog lights to add the air curtain slits, and there's some gadgetry inside the headlights that replace the fog light function which I have no knowledge of.

On the 22/23 they’re “bad weather lights” and are also used as the cornering lamps. Unlike the modern interpretation of “fog light” that is essentially just an auxiliary lamp that projects down the road (and dazzles oncoming drivers), these “bad weather lights” truly do light up the sides of the roadway as fog lamps once did.
 
"Driving lights" will dazzle oncoming drivers (see almost any late model Ford truck). "Fog lights" are supposed to have a sharp cutoff, designed to go under the fog. The "bad weather lights" are next to useless. They're mildly okay for in-town corners.

Agreed, I think they do well for the purpose. They are especially good in low visibility snow that the headlights illuminate too well.

The adaptive matrix headlights are now legal in the US. I don't think MINI is making them available here though. And the car in the test video still has fog lights. Maybe the J01 will have have the adaptive matrix lights? But that whole car isn't going to be in the US either.

Yesterday, my Mini celebrated its second year. Presents from the Mother Ship included a microfilter replacement, a brake flush and reset, a (12v) battery box cover, programming of the telematics control unit, a replacement of all the wipers, a reattachment of the floor mat emblems, and a bath and vacuum. MoM's service folks even sent me a video of the inspection. And I got to drive around in a '24 Wattson. (I was happy to return the all-black Wattson and go home in my BRG '22. White roofs are cooler than black ones.) MoM's service folks were knowledgeable, efficient, and very cheerful. They did tell me that the Goodyears were getting low on tread depth, which was disappointing but expected. 20,000 miles, and two winters with winter tires. I don't think the next set will be Goodyears.
 
My Goodyears complain all the time now. I can get them to squeal on a feisty start, even in a straight line, even with DSC on. With DSC off/DTC on, I can get full-on wheel spin. I just passed 10,000 km (6200 miles) of which only 6500 km were on the Goodyear F1s.

I can't understand how you can achieve full-on wheel-spin. My SE won't spin the wheels even in snow--when I floor the accelerator, the car simply creeps forward as quickly as it can without spinning the front wheels.

The used Hankook Ventus Prime 2 tires (with the BMW star) that came with my eBay Loop Spokes are older than my SE and they have never squealed. A major benefit for hooning in town. My OEM Hankooks don't squeal, either, but I mount the Power Spokes with those tires only for special events.
 
DTC allows wheel spin; DSC controls it, but it has to sense slippage first. In my car's case, the Goodyears make a lot of noise on that ragged edge.
 
A few months before I had to replace my Goodyears they were getting a little noisy on takeoff, must be a symptom of low tread. Once I replaced them with new Goodyears this summer the noise is gone once more.

At first I thought that was some kind of a drone until I read your comment. That has to make you angry, I'm sure it's not an inexpensive fix, sorry for your troubles mate.

DTC permits more wheelspin than DSC, but it is limited. Even roller mode will limit wheelspin. There isn't a way to do burnouts with some hacking. Tyre dealers will be disappointed to hear.
When I'm autocrossing, I usually floor it off the line. If warm, it'll spin a little for half a second then it bites and I'm at 100% acceleration. Sub 40mph acceleration is one of its strong points.
