Actually, we like it or not this eco-friendly transport will prosper, because of our environment is now deteriorating, in order to cut the over pollution of the earth, we have to clean up our mother Earth and we all GO GREEN, I am a member of eco-friendly transport called (PATIN-AY ECO FRIENDLY ELECTRIC TRANSPORT ORGANIZATION. Hi Domenick;

Good show, thanks for all the work you are putting into this site.

I have a question; could you set up sub categories for large topics within the General section? There is a lot of info in here, so stuff is a bit hard to find. Some suggestions:
- "Batteries" thread,it would cover discussions regarding, new developments, battery types, charging practices, personal experiences with the HV batteries. Here one could find info as a general overview, not manufacturer specific.
- "Charging Infrastructure" related discussions
- "Government Policies", it would allow us to have a global view.
- "EV Comparisons" - price/feature size etc. regardless of the manufacturer, this would be helpful for would be EV buyers.
- "Spread the Word", - discussion/suggestions of ideas of what where and how could we (the anointed;)) help EV education.

This is just a suggestion. I realize it is w-o-r-k.

I'd need some statistiks on Norwegian plug-in ev immatriculations/monthly sales 2018, 2019. Have you info in English about it?

Dominick, thanks for a great site. Useful and entertaining - hard to do sometimes.
If you don't mind, I'd like to make a suggestion.
I am taking my idea from the FerrariChat site.
Over there, there are forums about "lifestyle" which include collecting (non-Ferrari stuff like watches, etc), health issues, wines, finances, politics and more.
The "Off Topic" forum here fulfills that purpose, but unlike other sites, the postings in those categories also appear in the "General" discussions here.
Participants on the site know where to go for the political talk ("talk" being the polite word for such content) and those (most I would guess) who do not want to engage in those conversations - another polite word for what that content mostly is - don't have to have it mingled in with the car content they do come here for.
So, I suggest any postings in the "Off Topic" forum appear only there.
Your call of course. I hope you see how this can be an improvement for the site.

Our General section is meant to be for EV-related topics that may not be related to a single specific brand or model. While there is the chance that political content could wind up there -- sometimes it's unavoidable, for instance if discussing electric vehicle-related legislation -- I'd prefer the more purely political discussions go to off-topic. In fact, I placed a thread there this morning.

Thanks for a fast response. I think we are agreeing. I was trying to say that whatever is posted in "Off Topic" should not also show up as a thread in "General" as the thread "the fake Left's green-washing etc" does. I'm not for shutting people up. I'd prefer their "talk" be contained in "Off Topic" without their threads being listed in "General" too.
I do agree that some talk will be political and when it is reasoned, informative, useful and documented it should appear in any relevant category. Off topic is for the other stuff.
Think of having the noisy kids sit at their own table for Thanksgiving. They can throw peas and gravy at each other without bothering the adults.
Either way, though, I will keep coming here for all the good stuff.

I used to be on Ferarichat a few years back when I owned my 1991 Testarossa....
 
That's what I figured since I couldn't find anything. I use the save/bookmark feature in other forums (eg VerticalScope) regularly for informative posts that I might want to access later. Saves searching. And yes, could use a browser bookmark, but I avoid those, as I have multiple computers and browsers, and don't want to add to my syncing and maintaining woes with forum specific bookmarks.

So nice to be able to get good EV info without all the hype.
Being new to the EV world I am wondering about buying in now or waiting until solid state batteries are the norm.
Question: Will the current lithium ion batteries be replaceable with a solid state one? It seems like they are a huge leap from lithium ion ones.

This was a problem Macintosh users faced and to a greater or lessor extent:
  • Deny yourself an excellent today.
  • Suffer inferior performance for tomorrow performance promise.
So I bought a 2019 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus. It has not only met but often exceeded the car I bought. Sure there are nicer Teslas today but I have +60 k miles that were not denied.

There is a saying don’t let perfect be the enemy of GOOD ENOUGH.

Good question! I am not a battery expert but here is what think.
1. There are a number of EV forums which discuss EV issues. Here in Canada we have the EV Society of Canada. We have regular monthly zoom meetings discussing various expects of EV ownership - like batteries. This month we had Dr. Jeff Dahn our guest speaker. If anyone knows batteries he does. Google: https://www.dal.ca/diff/dahn/people/jeff_dahn.html Our sessions are usually recorded and available on YouTube. https://evsociety.ca/ Unfortunately the session with Dr. Dahn was not recorded at his request.
I am sure that wherever you live you can find an EV club of some kind. If you want to keep an open mind and not already set on buying a Tesla, stay away from Tesla clubs. Tesla makes excellent cars, I am an Elon fan myself but I settled on a Kona EV and yes, I survived a Li battery replacement fiasco - it was not funny. Here is the thing, I did not have to mortgage my house and the Kona is perfect for our use.

2. My suggestion is that if you are ready for a new set of wheels jump into an EV. Take a test drive talk to owners. There are a number of excellent EVs at various prices available today.

3. As for replacing a Li-Ion NMC or LiFePO battery in today's EVs with a solid state one. I personally would not worry about it. Here is why
- Evidence shows that batteries in EVs sold today will likely outlast your car. There are Tesla's on the road with 300,000 miles and still running.
- Considering the above point the cost of the replacement could be outright prohibitive - at least for mortal souls.

Thank you for your insight. Yes, am probably over thinking it. There seem to be a lot of good EVs available these days, and quite a few suv's coming in the next year or two. I'm not set on buying a Tesla. Yeah, had the feeling that replacing a LI battery with a solid state one would cost an arm and a leg.
