Video - Does it need a rear wiper?

I released this video last Friday and it may interest some of you. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 hatchback was released without a rear wiper, which was a mistake because the rear window gets unusable as many of you know. The Kia EV6 also doesn’t have a rear wiper, but doesn’t need one. In this video I go over the difference with the EV6 and some possible solutions for the pre-2025 Ioniq 5. Be sure to watch the whole thing because there are bloopers at the end of every video we make

I am glad that my Ionic 5 doesn't have a wiper. I do a lot of night driving and do not clean off the rear window as so many drive with their headlights too bright.
And you save money by never having to replace the rear wiper-blade insert. The Ioniq 5 N probably has a rear wiper to make it easier to spot those who add points to one's driving record.

I expect that with rear view camera technology being what it is, rear windows will disappear altogether in the not too distant future.

Over the years I have has a few vehicles withrear wipers. In most cases I have removed the rear wiper before it damages the rear window. In a couple of cases I have not been quick enough to do that and have had scrathed on the rear glass.

I too am glad that I don't have a rear wiper. One less thing to go wrong. I can see all I need with my side mirrors and the cameras that come with the I5.

The rear window in the vertical hatch of my MINI Cooper SE would be useless without a rear wiper. The whole hatch gets dirty minutes after washing it (maybe even before I start driving!). Fortunately, during my 5 years of driving bliss, no rocks have become lodged in the MINI's rear wiper and the window remains unscratched. Over 20 years, my two gen-1 Honda Insights were similary lucky.
