Does anyone know how many KWh the GOM display uses in calculating the EV range after a full charge?

My Kona EV has a real-time display of KWh/100 km and I’d like to be able to compare the efficiency of the 2 cars under various conditions, driving in only EV mode.

I understand the display is just a calculation based on recent driving efficiency but I could do some quick math based on the trip meter and the car’s estimate if I knew how many KWh it uses in its formula. I guess the next best thing to know would be the supposed useable capacity of the battery which I think is around 12 KWh?
 
Early on, there was a general guess that Honda provided the user with 14 of the 17 KWh capacity of the battery. I don't think anyone had any kind of definitive data from Honda or any other reliable source.
 
14kWh aligns with my experience during the first year of ownership (2018 model). The highest kWh charge was around 14 when fully discharged. Now, the highest it takes is in the low 13s.
 
My memory was 17Kwh but wasn't sure. I googled around and confirmed that from some Honda documentation. So same as others stated. Some EVSE's have a display or wifi / bluetooth connection so you can see how much power you used charging. The public ones in my area definitely do.

Also Clarity in hybrid mode gets 40Mpg. That's very good in my book, but note less than Prius hybrid (closer to 50). Clarity is a bigger car than Prius Prime for example, so its a trade off. And actually the reason I love the car is that it uses energy on the economical side, but feels like a normal sedan. I always feel like I need a can opener to get out of other economy cars.
 
You can measure how many kWh it takes to fully recharge the car after EV range goes to zero. Mine generally takes at most less than 13 kWh. I think now that it has 68k miles on it, it is probably more like just over 12 kWh as the max. I'd guess that losses during recharging are no more than 5-10%, so the amount that can be reused from the battery after recharging is probably like just over 11, maybe 11.5 kWh for my car as a maximum.

The Clarity provides no such information. Your best bet would be to measure the KWh’s consumed to restore the charge after a drive in EV Mode and then divide miles/kms traveled by KWh’s consumed to get a miles/kms per KWh figure. The Clarity doesn’t measure energy consumed while charging either, so you’ll need a separate device for that.

The result will be just be an average for the entire trip unless you’re able to break the trip into segments, for example, a high speed run, a stop and go run, an uphill run, etc and then charge after each segment. That might seem like a great deal of wasted time to some folks.

Alternatively, I ball parked each of the 18 bars on the battery gauge at 750 watts, which totals 13.5kWh’s. Monitoring that gauge along with miles/kms travelled can provide a rough idea of real-time energy usage. Eventually I decided that tracking all that minutiae wasn’t worth the effort.
