Two-year maintenance

What do you mean? Did you start getting less traction in the rain or less lateral traction or more road noise?
No problems with rain traction, just unhappy with the early wear with both the Hankooks and the Goodyears. I've gotten accustomed to the road noise.

The Hankooks on my previous Minis did not wear well, and I'm not thrilled with the early wear on the Goodyears that came on the SE.

EVs wear tires faster due to extra weight and extra torque. I haven't heard of any tires that hold up a long time. The "EV optimized" tires tend to focus on lower rolling resistance.

That's why I thought polling folks here might be more informative than, e.g., Tire Rack reports or treadwear ratings.

What tires typically come on the SE? Goodyear Eagles, Pirelli Cinturato P7, Hankook (what model)... anything else?

Is not so many tires with All Weather tread for SE size specifically 195/55/16 but I put Nokian WR -G4 All Weather on Forester and in my experience after 10000 miles the best tires ever /snow / slush/ wet / summer no wear .They are in 17 “ sizes for SE anybody try ? To choose a tires you have to be specific in your climate conditions .I own second set of rims and once I kill Hankooks they only summer tires if you drive them below 45 ‘ you wear them fast ! I will try Nokians 195/55/16 All Weather tread Solstice with snow flakes designations for light snow in NY.bc I own set Hankooks with 3000 miles I bought for $400 set with Revolites rims . I’m going to switch summer to colder weather 40’ temperatures to Solstice Nokian 16”.Here is a picture where to buy only 16”.Simpletire .com For many people information a ALL WEATHER tires are not the same as ALL SEASONS TIRES ATTACH=full]22030[/ATTACH]

I'm on my second set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tires at 74,000 miles, but I swap out for Hakkapeliitta R3s for winter (also on my second set of those). I had to replace the Goodyears after two summers, so lets say about 25,000-30,000 miles total?

It would be interesting to compare different stock tires re. how much mileage folks are getting out of them. My SE came with P7s, and while I don't know the original tread depth, at not quite 12k miles they seem to have plenty of life left.

At 13,311km, my P7 run flats IMG_6275.webpare still looking good.

Where is the 2-year SE service interval documented?

I presumed it was in the voluminous manual, but I can’t seem to find it.

Anyone have a link? Thanks.

Seems like a waste of time to do the 2 year. All they are gonna do is change the air filter and kick the tires. Some have said they change the brake fluid, but I seriously doubt they do. I have ten year old Toyota and its never had the brake fluid changed and its clear and good.

Good thing you have that pedestrian warning speaker. LOL!

Yeah it’s pretty much BS. No car from a reputable manufacturer needs a brake fluid change after 2 years.

Still looking for the actual written documentation of the two year service cycle. The local MINI service center is convinced that I need to bring my SE in every year, but I had always understood it was every two years. But I can’t seem to find where it is documented either way.

Not sure it's in the manual, as it's part of the warranty on the vehicle. Also, it should say service is due in the SE itself, check under vehicle status. And you should also get new wiper blades all around, so I'd say it's worthwhile if you can conveniently get a dealer and/or enjoy visiting the dealer to see a bunch of MINIs.

If you're using the Mini app on your phone, pressing "Vehicle Status" and then "Next Service" will tell you when your next service is. Mine says service is due two years after my first service (which was two years after purchase), and it also says "Brake fluid" at the same time.

Interesting. In my app I have Vehicle Information and Vehicle Settings, but no Vehicle Status. Is that also under the Vehicle Control Center?

Under “check status” at the top of the screen, the one that shows if your car is locked.

On brake fluid changes on Mini's dime, of course, do it. Later, though... that's a good question.

After the pleasure of rebuilding seized (rusted) Volvo calipers and a rust-pitted MG master cylinder on cars I bought used, I don't miss a recommended brake fluid change interval. Brake fluid really does absorb water from the air, and because water is heavier than brake fluid, the water collects at the lowest point of the system--the caliper pistons. It causes corrosion. One reason is that caliper pistons are usually steel and the bores they ride in are not.

I like changing brake fluid myself, and at two years, BMW brake fluid always is brown coming out and clear going in, typically after not very many miles. Not always dark brown, but brown. The brown is corrosion, and the cause is water in the system. So I've always done it per the manual's recommended intervals.

But. Humidity from the air gets into the brakes as fluid from the reservoir enters the lines to compensate for pad wear, and EV brakes just don't get used that much. So the pads don't wear, so not much air enters the reservoir as the fluid level drops, so not much water makes it into the brake lines and down to the calipers. I can understand why someone who mostly uses one-pedal braking wouldn't do the two-year changes.

I may reread this post to talk myself out of it when the time comes!

After further dialog with MINI service center, they did check my VIN and sure enough my SE is only due for service every two years.
