My daughter got the benefit of a cancellation and was able to jump on a car that was already produced and ready to be shipped to dealer she was in conversations with about ordering a 2023. She has a very tight timeline so intercepting this car will hopefully save her from either buying a different car (likely used in this tough market) OR having to find a temporary solution until an order would show up (May?). Base package w/ only roof rails as an added option ($250). Paying $2,500 above MSRP. Dealer said it would be $6k over MSRP if it landed on the lot without a customer attached to it. (I don't believe that, but it was said and we were willing to pay the $2,500 b/c of her timing issues.)

Once she filled out the loan paperwork, paid the MINI deposit ($250) and paid the Dealer order fee ($100), we got the production #. Dealer informed us car was already on a ship and after setting up her account at the website and inputting the production #, we now have the VIN and the confirmation that her car is "IN TRANSIT."

How do we get the information as to what ship it is on and then follow the progress of that ship. Dealer is guessing mid-MAR delivery to her which would work out really well.

BTW - she has chosen the 60 mo. 2.49% financing with the $7,500 balloon payment at the end. Gives the most flexibility as we can pay it off at any point but with Fed rate hikes in the offing to address inflation concerns, that seems to be a decent hedge and will allow her to get in the habit of investing the $ she would have used to pay cash and hopefully beat that #. Doubt if I could find 2.5% auto loan in the current market. Monthly payment is manageable for her.

The dealer should be able to tell you the ship it’s on. If they say they can’t they aren’t being honest with you.
