Touch-up paint sticks...Island Blue?

My wife and I have had our IB SE for over a month now and love it! However, we find ourselves in need of a touch-up paint stick for island blue after our daughter was trying to be helpful and opened the hatch door into the garage door.

The mini website doesn't list IB as an available color. They seem to have 16 other types of blue, but not island blue. Any idea why and more important...where could I get one?

ANYWAY - I was in a bind like you were trying to find touch up paint for a 30 year old car years ago.. and found this site...

But they can be kind of slow but if you buy a little bottle of touchup paint as long as you know the color code (I'm guessing yours is Island Blue metallic?) and maybe a small bottle of clear coat you should be set.. I've had success using them.

Orrrr.. take a trip to your local dealer and talk to the parts department. Even though it's not listed online in the store.. the store is pretty weak and I'm sure there's a part number for the touchup sticks.

*edit* - Actually I see the huge list of part numbers.. usually you have to bring in your vin code to the parts department and they can order that specific color (C2M?) and get you taken care of.. you can e-mail or call them too if you want. Sorry long message

(sometimes these bottles they sell are much better than the "pens" some dealerships use. I'm not sure what Mini uses.. I need to order some green IV paint from them...on my to-do list)

I'm in the US and a quick Google search leads to a few companies that say they provide the Island Blue touch up paint. Hopefully they are reliable, but I'm trying to go the "OEM" route first as paint color can be a tricky thing to match.

I've reached out to my dealership to see if they can help me. I've also got the cosmoline wax drip issue (see photo) that I need to try to get resolved (under warranty) with them, so hopefully they can also help me out with the paint issue...they've been pretty good with customer service so far (Loveland Mini - Colorado).

I have the OEM titanium silver for my 128. I tried to fill a chip on the hood using the razor method. The color is completely different. It was a waste of time and money. About 10 years ago I went to a finishmaster (south of Mile High by the Costco at Riverfront if you ever come this far south https://www.finishmaster.com/locations/ )for my M Roadster years ago and they had four or five chips for Alpine White. We went outside, the gal behind the counter laid them on the hood, and she picked the one that was closer than the rest. They mixed a spray bomb for me and I repaired the chips in the splitter using that paint and the flex clear they sold me. It came out much better than the silver hood. I know non metallic is easier to match, but having multiple chips for the easiest color to match..... I wonder if we switched a body panel would they match?

The guy who helps deliver the cars told me to expect cosmoline by the front. He showed me how they loaded it up between the parts of the hood. Easiest is a power washer to the plastic. Don't use chemicals he said.

Thank you for posting this!!!! I have had my MINI since Dec 21 and I needed this info! Unfortunately I drive on the highway frequently to get to work. Of course already have a ding on the side that is not bad but the paint was scratched off. What ever flew and hit the side of passenger door was sharp.

Update: The dealership just called me...their service department said that there is no inventory of the island blue touch up paint in the US, UK, or Germany right now. They'll keep an eye on it and they are hoping it doesn't stay that way for long.

Also, they're scheduling me to take care of the cosmoline problem. Probably going to just replace the panel. Here is the TSB on it in case anyone else has this issue: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10161584-9999.pdf

I'll update this thread if I get a hold of the IB touch up kit soon.

You could try automotive touchup if you just want a little touchup bottle or pen.

Update: The dealership just called me...their service department said that there is no inventory of the island blue touch up paint in the US, UK, or Germany right now. They'll keep an eye on it and they are hoping it doesn't stay that way for long.

That's crazy I probably should buy a bottle for my car if they don't have your color in stock... yikes! Well if all fails that automotive touchup website.. I've had success but I don't blame you for wanting to go OEM. Keep us updated!

Is OEM Sikken, Glasurit or another company? Does the same company that makes the paint for the factory paint guns also make the paint for the vials?

I know the factory probably doesn't mix the paint and put it in those small bottles... but still I just prefer to buy the approved factory stuff but I totally get your point.

Any update on this? Did the dealer get some paint in, or did you have to go another route?

I was installing bonnet stripes earlier today and the tape measure fell off a towel, chipping paint as it tumbled down the hood. I still don't see Island Blue listed as a color choice on the MINI shopping website. Going to call the dealer first thing Monday morning, but did it at least work out for you in the end?

I have multi tone roof so I don't even know if it can be fixed, paint wise.

If I cut my arm, I dress the wound and let it close up and heal, I don't leave it gaping open to the elements so the problem can get worse.
A scar is what's left over after the repair.
