Tire pressure and exterior lights

Well, The subject is tire pressure...

At 87K miles, I am on my third set of tires. These tires are at 17K miles, and there is more wear in the center of the tires than the edges: This is the way the other two sets have failed, wear in the middle.

I thought center wear indicated high air pressure. For second set of tires, I reduced the tire pressure to 32 psi. When I rotated the tires today (cold weather), the pressure is reading 28 psi. It does not seem that my center wear can be coming from high air pressure, since my air pressure is low. I kept the first set of tires right at 36.

I am ready to bring the air pressure back up to 32, or even 36, but I would really like to get longer tread life.

The first two sets of tires were OEM (First came with car, second was ebay takeoffs.) I went cheaper on third set and got Tiger Paws - Looks like life will be about the same.

What else causes center-tread tire wear?

Well, The subject is tire pressure...

Actually Bill, the original post asked whether or not it was possible to obtain individual tire pressure readings from one of the displays in the car or through the app. There was a second question about exterior lighting.

So, if we feel compelled, for some strange reason, to focus on the subject, we shouldn’t be discussing unusual tire wear patterns.

Carry on.

I think I mislead in my TPMS comment. I leave it in the garage plugged in so when the car is there the pressure is being read.

I bought the same one as @Robert_Alabama, and I'm pretty happy with it, only an undetermined origin leak on the right rear in a year with the pressure going down to 29 PSI on that sole tire, but it remained stable after re-inflation.
However, I noticed from the start that the device's pressure readings (on PSI) for all tires are always a bit higher than what I get from the air pump when inflating (ex. 38 instead of 36 PSI).
BTW, the "native" Honda mechanism remained silent in the process...

This is probably my favorite add-on for the car...

Since it is solar charged, if I drive the car at all, it stays charged. During Covid, I have plugged it into usb once when it was discharged after being parked in the basement for probably a couple of weeks...

I have this system also - I have my tires at 36 psi (at 70 degrees F.) The system isn't completely accurate: mine shows 37 psi on the left tires and 35 psi on the right tires. At least I KNOW what the differential is and have mentally adjusted to it. Normal driving shows them going up about 3 psi each.

Mine are wearing evenly. I'm approaching 30k miles. I live in an area where curvy roads are common -- therefore more wear on the shoulders of the tires, which may explain the even wear.

Is there also a way that headlights turn off automatically when I call it a day and park the car at night, instead of having to manually switch them off! I usually turn the lights on all the way to where I it won't switch anymore, if that makes sense

Thanks for your help!
Seems like everyone took the tire pressure topic and ran with it. To answer your question about the headlights turning on/off automatically, just set the headlight switch on the stalk to the Auto position. IIRC there is a setting in the menus somewhere to adjust the sensitivity (how dark before they turn on) and amount of time they stay on after you shut the car off.

Are your tires approaching the end of life, with even wear, or will you go to 50K miles?

Pretty sure David lives in TN, but in Missouri, I adjust the air pressure when it turns cold and in the summer when it warms up. I try to keep them at 36psi.

That “in TN” part of his handle should have been enough of a clue, had I been paying attention. I’ve played golf there in snow flurries at Christmas. It can get cold.

I asked, because there had been some recent conjecture on an RV forum about setting “cold” tire pressure at 70F, which is incorrect. One person went as far as to say, if the pressure is below the recommended pressure when it 20F outside, just leave it low because it will increase to the correct pressure when the tire warms up while driving.

I adjust the pressure in all my cars and trucks and tractors when the weather is colder. Wife's car (jeep Grand Cherokee) has real TPMS numbers and doesn't show excessively high numbers when driving and neither does the Clarity. They typically increase 2 to 3 psi. As I stated before I am satisfied with the wear on OEM tires after 32k miles.

Am I missing something? The headlights turn off automatically if you just leave the switch in the Auto position...

Which switch is auto position? Every day when I park my car, I actually have to manually turn off my headlights. When I had the volt, they automatically turn on at dusk, and would auto turn off when I power of vehicle

Look at my post #26 above. I guess Landsnark assumed that the nebulous responses in the first five posts answered your question (but didn't).

Aww, that’s cute.

He didn’t ask how to set it to Auto until post #34. So, I wouldn’t have assumed the question was answered prior to that.

And believe me, the Shark can get quite snarky when necessary.

His original post asked how to set it so that he didn't have to turn the headlights off manually. Using deductive reasoning, that means he was asking how to set the system to do it automatically. Maybe it wasn't until post #34 that he asked in such a way that you would understand what he meant. He obviously didn't read my post that 'splained how to do it.

Sweet Jesus, roadkill, I was actually somewhat traumatized to learn that anyone who managed to obtain a drivers license and join an interweb forum couldn’t figure out how to set the headlights to Auto.

And, the question was answered in post #6, which was as wayyyyy before your post.
