Text message feature on 2015

just purchased a 2015 Leaf with 16k miles. So far love it! But I cannot get my iphone to use the text feature. What am I doing wrong?
 
The notifications need to be enabled both in the car an in the app. I forget what the setting is in the car (but banged my head against a wall for a month trying to figure out why this wouldn't work), but enable that and in the app (or possibly on the web site?) turn on the notifications you'd like. I currently have texts off, but email on for charging status, climate control, battery heater, and especially the plug in reminder.
