Surprise, 85KWH battery is not compatible with P85D

I bought a used battery and installed it. After attempting software upgrades I took the car to Tesla. They said the battery was incompatible and offered to install a rebuilt one for $20K.

I had not heard of this before as most forums and Tesla service documentation does not mention incompatibilities across the range of batteries from 60-85KWH.

Anyone know if the car, battery or both can be reprogrammed to work with this battery? Apparently the P and D require a different battery. This is news to me.

There's got to be a way to get around this.

The dual motor batteries have front and rear power connectors. The single, rear moto ones don’t.

There are independent shops that can help. Search in YouTube.

I believe you're talking about the Plaid version which did not exist in 2014.

Will the independent shop take the battery you bought in partial trade for one that is compatible? How much would it cost for a used Tesla that is compatible with the battery you bought?

Yeah, that's an option but would end up costing close to $9K. I'm searching for solutions such as replacing the BMS module.
