Having done a lot of long trips on electric, I’m honestly not surprised in the least. Infrastructure needs to improve substantially for mass adoption.
 
A study finds that up to 75% of charging stations were working like a charm.

I wonder how many gas pumps in this same service area were working like a charm? That’s a comparison that would have really told us something.

Public charging stations need to be as reliable and as simple to operate as gas pumps if we expect broad based adoption of BEV’s.

Note that the survey is CCsS chargers only, not Tesla ones.
In my limited experience the 25% figure sounds about right.
I have much more experience of Tesla Superchargers and I’ve only ever seen two faulty units (I didn’t encounter a faulty unit myself, instead I saw them indicated by the cable hung over the top of the unit and that could be a sneaky user trying to trick other ppl into thinking the unit is faulty so they don’t share power as it was a v2 unit) across the 35 locations and 11 States I’ve visited. Given each location is 6-30 chargers I’ll average out at 10 per location so that’s maybe 2 out of 350 units so just over 0.5%.
When you consider 80%+ of the EVs out there are Teslas tit follows their units are much more heavily used, and in many cases older. So it’s even more shameful that so many CCS units are failing. The networks should be forced to publish kWh delivered between failure for their units, time to restore to service and concurrent units down per day. And then be fined if they don’t meet minimum requirements for each.

We've all (in the past, of course) pulled up to a pump, gotten out to start to fuel, and discovered that little "out of order" note. I'll bet that no-one has done a survey on that.
 
My point is that gas stations have several pumps, so even if one is out of order there are others.

In Tucson there are five L3 locations and each of them has only one charger. So, it is simply not possible to actually count on any one of them in a situation where you absolutely must have a charge to get home.
