Stuck in a parking lot in accessory mode with a power steering warning light

Did you try to shut the system down by just pressing the start button and then starting the car again (with the brake depressed)? The worst case scenario is to disconnect the 12V battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting. The system will then reboot itself. Kind of like when you're computer has crashed or is acting up. Maybe somebody in the forum knows of an easier way to reboot the system? Good luck!

This is what the manual says:

Reasons for the indicator to come on
- Comes on when there is a problem with the EPS system.
- If you depress the accelerator pedal repeatedly to increase the motor
speed while the motor is idling, the indicator comes on, and
sometimes the steering wheel becomes harder to operate.
- Comes on when the EPS steering angle center point memory is lost.
This could be due to a number of problems including: battery disconnection, main fuse blow, low battery causing the reset of the EPS system, wire damage to EPS harness. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®), VSA® OFF, Collision Mitigation Braking SystemTM (CMBSTM), and low tire pressure/TPMS indicators come on along with a message in the driver information interface.
What to do when the indicator comes on
- Stop the vehicle in a safe place, turn off the power system, and turn
on the power system again.
If the indicator re-appears and stays on, immediately have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid dealer.
- If VSA® indicator, VSA® OFF indicator, CMBSTM indicator, and low tire pressure/TPMS indicator come on along with a message in the driver information interface, you need to calibrate the VSA and EPS systems. Drive a short distance at more than 12 mph (20 km/h) to calibrate the VSA and EPS systems.
If the indicators come on and stay on, park your vehicle in a safe place, turn off and turn on the power system, then repeat the above operation.
If the indicators still come on and stay on, immediately have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid dealer.
What I dint understand from this very helpful suggestion was that to turn off accessory mode, I needed to just press power without depressing the brake pedal.
Then I could start it again, the warning light went out, and I drove off happily, canceling the tow truck and telling the nice guy at Huntsville Honda that I’d fixed it.
He offered me a job.
I think that other users are more experienced than Honda service bays.

Damn, sorry I didn't pick up on that but glad you sorted it out.
No pedal brake, press once goes into accessory mode. Press again and everything turns on (like it's started) but you still can't drive. Press again with foot on pedal, and it becomes drivable (or press again without foot on pedal and it turns off)

Similar thing happened a few days ago on our 3 months old Ody. Pulling out of the gas station, I think I pressed power without pressing on the brake. And couldn't start the car until I shut it off and back on pressing the brake pedal.
I realize this is an old thread but the same thing happens to me on a routine basis. Here's what triggers it: I approach my home and remove my seatbelt as I drive onto my driveway. I then stop the car by pressing the wrong "P" on the console (there is a "p" for park and another "p" for brake at the bottom). I wait for the garage door to open and then find that I cannot drive into the garage. I get the message “To Start vehicle press brake and push power button” and I comply with those instructions. However, the car doesn't start. Ultimately, I turn the car off entirely and then re-start it again and it drives. Not sure exactly which of the multiple mistakes I do is causing this to happen but since I do this at least once a week it happens once a week.

I have had the same experience. Unlike other cars, the Clarity does not seem to be willing to go from Accessory to On just by pressing the brake and power button. You have to press the power button and have the car shut off completely and then press the power button and brake to turn the car on and ready to go.
I'm more concerned that he seems to be stopping a moving car by putting it in park.

It seems simple enough to stop the car by depressing the brake pedal with your foot, wait for the garage door to open, then enter the garage, then shut the car down. The car does not have a traditional torque converter style transmission so there is no added wear by remaining in drive while stopped.

Mine almost always does. Only one time when it wouldn’t, and I reported that here - apparently something to do with when the charging cord was disconnected. The drivers display kept saying to push the brake and press start, but nothing happened. The solution was to power down completely, and then to restart.
