Thats something I would be concerned about. Can you look under to see if there is anything that looks like it doesnt belong?

I cannot see anything underneath that should not be there, except for dirt; I really should wash the underside of the car.

An update:

Brought the SE to the dealer yesterday, ensured that the noise was still there when I parked the SE.

They called up this morning to say they cannot hear the noise, so we agreed that they should just bring the SE back home, and yup I confirmed that the noise was gone.

Their diagnosis, a gravel was caught somewhere on the drivers wheel and got loose when they lifted up the SE.

Anyways, happy that the noise is now gone and the turning of the wheels are back to its smoothest [emoji16]

I learn another couple of things about the SE, according to the dealer:

1. The SE does not need an alignment
2. The SE is designed to pull to the left to wake you up during long drives, here in NZ at least bec we drive on the left side of the road

Edit:
An addition, they also said there is really no need to wash the underside as it is well protected.

In my head, I asked, well protected from dirt?

I says pardon? I’ve never heard such a thing before. The sudden stop at the bottom of the ditch will certainly wake you up.

I know, right. A crash will definitely wake your lights up.

I left perplexed with a wry smile on my face, thinking modern cars seem to be funny.

Pretty much, yeah. The SE's underside is mostly an unbroken surface because of the protective battery cover. Driving in wet conditions should cause enough spray to remove most grime. Unless you do a lot of off-roading I wouldn't worry about the underside.

My US SE doesn't pull to the right. If you let go of your steering wheel, your SE pulls left? That's an alignment problem IMO.

Mine was making a similar noise. Took it in 6 months ago and they couldn’t replicate it. Got the car back and it went away? Now it’s back again but not as severely.

It only happened after the car was warmed up a little like if I went somewhere and was coming home, I could head it and was definitely when I was turning.

According to my cousin who worked for the big three, roads are built with a little camber to the outside. This is so water runs off the road. This also will have the car wandering to the outside.

Years ago on a ski trip one of the cars developed a terrible noise. We took it to a shop, they put it on a lift and nudged the pebble that was caught between the pad an rotor. Noise was gone.

That is exactly what he said. That is one less thing to worry about the SE, sweet. Have requested them to take a photo of the underside when the SE was hoisted up.

I feel that the SE slightly pulls to the left when doing 100kph, i feel it is a really slight pull. It might even be just me.

The wheel alignment though is not part of the warranty and I was told that MINI / BMW does not do wheel alignments, so I didn’t proceed with it.

Hmm, I’ve learned something new. I have not noticed that, I was enjoying the drive too much [emoji41]

So it happened again last Saturday last week, the metal grinding noise came back. I scheduled the car to be check last Monday and yup the metal grinding noise was there when I left and when I arrived at the dealer.

They hoisted the car and did a proper disanosis, they even attached mics to the back of the wheel to determine where the noise was coming from, see attached pic.

They determined that the metal plate between the toe arm and disc brake got misaligned, they fixed it and the metal grinding noise is now gone.IMG_0691.webp
