Sirius XM "Requested Channel is not Available" Error

I'm having an annoying little issue that I wonder if anyone else has experienced and fixed.

I programmed my preferred Sirius Channels into the presets and now, when I select one of them, I get an error message saying "Requested Channel Is Not Available" even though it switches to the channel fine and plays fine.

The error message covers the entire "preset" strip and remains there for about 10 seconds during which, of course, I cannot change the channel.

Anyone else seen this?

I saw this problem a few weeks ago, but after a few days the problem just went away. I am not aware of anything I did which resolved it. I did try to reprogram my presets, but at time that didn't seem to resolve it. In my case the issue just went away on its own.

John, you're not experiencing the problem now?

No Rajiv it isn't happening anymore. At least for me it seemed to go away on its own.

One glitch I had a few days ago, when I was filling up with gas, the HV odometer set itself to 999. While the Range selection on the Drivers Information Interface, (DII), is supposed to be an estimate, there is no doubt in my mind that this was a snafu of some sort. The EV odometer part is fine, as is the A and B trip odometer, and the fuel gauge indicator is also working correctly, just the HV odometer is incorrect, and thus the total range is incorrect. I suspect that if I put enough miles using gas in the HV mode that when the HV odometer gets below 60 it will probably start to behave properly. I did call Honda in Torrance, California to inquire about it, and they said they would refer it to the appropriate technical support engineer, and get back to me.

As for the satellite radio, you might want to check with your dealer. I would have done so except the problem went away on its own after a few days. I sure would like to know what the trigger event was that caused it, and what made it go away though.

Same thing here, but it isn't affecting any stations or presets (so far, anyway). Just noticed it a few days ago.

SOLVED: Using a fix I found on the Internet

1. Go to your SiriusXM Channel and make sure you can hear the music (open place).
2. Click on MENU on the left.
3. Click on Setting at the bottom.
4. Click on "Multiple Channel Mix Preset" and turn it ON.
5. Go to any channel that you have NOT programmed as a preset and then click-and-hold a preset to "mix" both channels into a single preset (I didn't know we could do this - cool!). Some channels cannot be mixed (e.g., news), so pick one that can be mixed.
DONE - your "Requested Channel Not Available" error should be gone.

OPTIONAL:
6. Go back into the menu and turn off the multiple channel mix.
7. Reprogram your "mixed" channel to one you want.

You're welcome. :-)

excellent find Rajv!!!!!!!!!

I'm a part of this (not so) exclusive club. I went settings; Mix Preset was already ON; so I just turned it OFF then back ON and guess what - the Warning Message disappeared. Keeping finger crossed...

Thanks for sharing - this fixed my problem.

As part of researching what the mix feature does, I discovered that our cars are continuously recording the preset SiriusXM stations (similar to a DVR). You can skip forward and back among songs using the skip buttons at lower right. The "tune start" setting will automatically start at the beginning of a song when you change stations. The digits at mid-level on right show where the song started. For example, change station and digits might read -1:30. That means that the current song began 1:30 ago and your listening is lagging real-time by 1:30. Interesting feature, but I don't think that useful.

I wondered why I was getting "signal" in the parking garage until I noticed the skip time, but never remembered "backing up." I wonder if this also has something to do with the climate control knocking out Sirius randomly - if it scrambles the DVR-like brain does it need to reacquire signal?

The problem restarted yesterday. I had to go into the settings reprogram one channel and the problem disappeared. I could then go in and reprogram the channel again to what I wanted. It appears the problem has something to do with the channel presets.

I tried Rajiv's fix this morning and it worked, thank you Rajiv! When I called SiriusXM about this a few months ago, they were clueless, all they could do was send a refresh to the radio which of course didn't fix the problem. When I talked to my Honda dealer about this, they, too, were clueless. Somebody needs to issue a software update to fix this, whatever is causing it. It's happened three times in my 2017 CRV in less than a year.

Ok everyone...I've had this problem with my 2017 Civic (no, it's not just CRVs) and took it back to the dealership yet again yesterday. When technology fails me, I have little patience and I can be a very squeaky wheel. This time, they made me a copy of the service bulletin that Honda sent to the dealers in March 2018. It lays out the "mix fix" that was mentioned in this thread, but also makes it clear that the fix is temporary and the issue may come back. I saw that the dealership had done this to my radio has most of my preset buttons were pooched. I turned the mix option back off, reset my presets, and the issue is still gone. I'm sure it will return at a later date.

The service bulletin mentions that Honda is aware of the problem, is currently working on a permanent fix, and is instructing dealers not to install any new parts. It also mentions that models from 2016, 2017, and 2018 are effected.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this, but when the bar makes an appearance, you can make it disappear by hitting the BACK button. You can also wait for it to time out. These options are both very annoying to be sure, but I think hitting BACK is better than this mix fix option. I've also noticed that the bar disappears altogether after hitting back for about a week (but then reappears at a later date).

Very helpful, Jeff. I called my Honda service advisor today and he was completely unaware of the problem. I might follow up with another call about the upcoming fix from Honda and get my game on a list. Thanks.

Glad to help. Let your service advisor know it's Tech Line Summary Article ATS 180303 Version 1 "Requested Channel Not Available Message Covering SiriusXM Preset Icons"

Now that I have the article in front of me, I see it mentions that the affected vehicles are 2016-18 Civics and 2017-18 CR-Vs.
