Setting the Clarity display light levels for night driving

On my first (long) night drive home, I had to pull into a rest stop to figure out how to dim the center display.

In short, when the center display is in "moon" setting, the main display brightness buttons under the driver display sets the brightness of both displays (driver and center).

In the "*" setting, there is a separate brightness slider for the center display.

There is a main driver display and the center display (audio system). The brightness of the center display day or night is controlled by two buttons just at the driver display (on either side of the trip odometer center button). only got the right most button lower left this picture.

Center display: To control the brightness of the center display, there is a brightness icon lower left (Day/Night) Icon (page 210, owner's manual). *, moon (under the curved "BACK" symbol, lower left)

In the upper right of the center display there are three icons *, moon, and off. Pushing on those three icons upper right does nothing (apparently they are just status display indicators). Seems like it might be a relatively easy software fix to change these into active buttons.

In the moon mode, the main display brightness buttons under the driver display controls the brightness of both displays.

As an aside, there other display customization settings at display settings through a couple of selections from the home menu.

Pushing the Day/Night icon on the lower left cycles between day, night, and off. Pushing the buttons on the screen doesn't do anything. (I don't think they are supposed to be buttons but they unfortunately look like you should be able to push them.) However, cycling between day and night modes while on the home screen of the head unit by pushing the Day/Night button doesn't change anything. But if you are using Android Auto (and maybe Apple Carplay, but I can't test that) it does change between light and dark themes. I use Google Play Music almost exclusively in the car and the app itself is very bright but doesn't have a dark mode to choose in the app on the phone, which is weird because it sure looks like it does when cycling the Day/Night button on the car head unit. Alternatively, Google Maps on the phone will automatically change to a dark theme when it gets dark outside but it stayed in the bright theme in the car all the time, which really bugged me. Switching to dark mode on the head unit manually changed Google Maps to the dark theme. I still think it should do it automatically since it is running through the phone, but I will take this for now.

I've found that my car is a bit too quick to switch into night mode on Android auto everytime I'm under an underpass and in the process makes the display very dim so that I can't actually see it. This is even true when I make it as bright as possible using the primary display brightness buttons as discussed in this thread .

is there a setting I missing somewhere to either delay the amount of time until it starts night mode when the sensor detects darkness or make the night mode display much brighter?

Thanks for resurrecting the thread as it solved a big issue for me. My night display always has been too bright for me and it seemed like using the buttons on the touchscreen didn't do anything. The OP indicates that they actually don't do anything in night mode.

So, I'm going to change it later using the method described above...

I would try that method to see if you can increase the brightness of your touchscreen in night mode. Perhaps someone out there knows how to modify how the vehicle responds to the sensor, but it seems easier to try adjusting the brightness first.

Unfortunately it's unreadable in daylight when it's in night mode, even at full brightness. I was hoping there was a setting to get it to wait to switch, so it doesn't switch so readily to night more...

Strange. I can barely see a difference during daylight hours if I swap between day and night mode. I'm assuming that the brightness in night mode is turned most of the way up. Based on your response, I'm assuming you've gone into night mode and then adjusted the brightness using the buttons on the driver display near the dash?

Yes. Adjusted all the way up using the physical dash brightness buttons

It's fine at actual night, but unreadable in night mode in the day...
