Safe lubricant for charging plug

I bought a 240V Jekeyla EVSE that's working well, except that insertion and removal is very difficult, unlike the 120V unit that came with the Clarity. I'm wondering whether it would be safe and useful to apply some dielectric silicone lubricant to the plug.

Has anyone had experience with this?
 
Yeah, in my case it was my spinal surgeon who warned me against too much exertion, so I know where you're coming from. I will break out the lube tube. (Dr. Ruth should be in on this conversation.)
 
I feel your pain Tangible, especially the back. I’m on my third round of thermal nerve ablation. My other suggestion is to mount your level 2 EVSE a little higher than the instructions say to so you don’t bend over at all. Also if you use the oem, then buy a wall holder for the plug (very cheap) so you don’t have to bend over for it either. You just unplug from car and plug in to that and can leave the brick plugged into wall. So no bending over.
Amazon and eBay have them for around $10-12 like this

And can we start calling it dielectric silicone grease so I won’t feel lewd when I plug in.
 
@jdonalds That's brilliant. Unfortunately I need to move my EVSE between two homes fairly often, and I don't want to fork over another $400 to have one in each garage.

@KentuckyKen OK, "grease" it is. When I first started buying parts to feed my ham radio habit at age 12 I was too embarrassed to ask the sales clerk for "male" and "female" connectors. This was 1958, a more innocent time. My blushing days are over, and Amazon is non-judgmental, so it's all good.

I'm going to buy the "holster you pictured, unless I can find something that doesn't cause the plug to jut out perpendicular to the wall.
 
Jdonalds, my back is envious of that solution and my wallet is envious of your solar set up. I’m going to consider that refactor idea. And perhaps now I love my white Clarity 1% less after seeing your red solar slingshot!

Tangible, you could mount a block of wood of sufficient depth to allow it to mount perpendicular or 45 degree to the wall if space is a concern.

I too miss the innocence of our youth. The times they are achanging.

I can't speak to the other manufacturers, but I think ClipperCreek EVSE comes with the wall holder. Or at least they come with the factory-certified pre-owned versions they sell now that I wrote about last week.

Domenick, we’re talking about a holster for the oem EVSE that’s just a brick with charging cord/plug handle in a bag.

I think at least some of the ClipperCreek and JuiceBox units do come with the holster, but the Jekeyla doesn't.

@jdonalds Your video reminded me of your post over on the Solar Panel Talk forum about the issue you had with clipping because the installer put too small of an inverter in. Did you ever get that resolved? My installer almost got away with putting in a 5kW inverter when I requested the SE6000h. Like you, I installed solar after getting the Clarity, due to the fact that charging the vehicle basically doubled our daily electrical usage.
 
Since we're now talking about solar panels, I'll take this opportunity to pick the brains of those who know about such things, to save myself some painful number crunching:

My roof generates about 10 MWh per year. How many miles of Clarity driving will that account for? (roughly, of course)
 
That’s cool. I wish I could really use my own electricity rather than the technical and financial hoop jumping that characterizes the system today. Still, it’s nice to know. Thanks.

The four cars we purchased before the Clarity were all white. It was time to change. My wife's least favorite color is green so Crimson it was.
We've adopted four children so what's one more! I always tell people we'll take their kids and raise them but we'll bring them back when they turn 13 years of age.
