According to SAE J1772 standard, when pressing the release button of the connector of a level 1 & 2 charger, the car should command within 100mSec the EVSE to cut power. On my Kona 2019 it was the case. On my 2024 I5, the charge continues like nothing happens. This situation may create a small arcking when removing the connector while still charging and potentially damage its contacts or event damage charger port. I wander if even damage to ICCU could occur.

I find this happens in my Kona as well, but only with some EVSEs. Most do cut out with trigger (proximity disconnect) push. I now depend on the keyfob unlock function or adjusting the level using the infotainment menu just to be sure.
For the Ioniq 5, this procedure might work for you
I would agree that drawing a full load arc on disconnection would have negative consequences to both the port contacts and the on board charger (in this case the ICCU).
Have you monitored the menu (charging display) in the EV to see if current is actually reduced when using the trigger or is it at full load?
BTW second redundant thread is removed;)

@electriceddy I did the test, the power does go to 0... And by maintaining the button pressed for more than 5 seconds, the connector unlocks and I get the voice saying that the charge is terminated.

I thing I got fooled because on my Kona there was some sound happening immediately when I would press the button on the connector.

Although, when the climate control is started via Bluelink, it won't stop when pressing the button and I can remove the connector. It is only when the connector is completely removed the the climate control stops. I think possible arcking existe in this situation.
