I have to admit, I'm a little jealous of your adventures in the SE. I won't get to road-trip it for a while because most of my trips include 5 people. Instead, I take the Bolt. Despite its larger range, its similar DC charging rate and terrible taper makes road tripping similar. The Bolt rate drops off a cliff at 55%, at which point it has marginally more range than a fully charged SE.

Once or twice a year I do take a solo trip into the back country to meet my brother for some backpacking. That will be the only time I really road trip the SE.

So do share your experience. At least I can experience the adventure vicariously through you!

My wife and I are just a few years shy of empty nest (in theory). Our high school son does not want to hang out with us...just wants to borrow my car and disappear with his friends! Our daughter is moving out in the fall. So I see plenty of road trip time with my wife in the future. My SE is due at the port on April 4th. Finally got on a ship.

My youngest is under two, still in a rear-facing car seat. We have 17 years to empty nest, at least (unless we become blessed with another child). In 17 years, I do not expect to still have the SE. Maybe a new one with twice the range (and maybe lighter to boot!)

CarPlay, or will it run natively through the car?
The iOS/CarPlay app needs some work. I was going to link my other EV for live data sharing, but it didn’t seem worth it.

It would be great if ABRP released an OBD Bluetooth device, btw.

I've got ABRP, it works on CarPlay but sadly only as a recurring subscription charge. I'd pay a one-time fee for the feature, but I'm not paying per month to use my car.

Ahh yes, I remember that. iOS user though. :(

ABRP has provided a lot of value in the years I’ve been using it. It’s really given me the confidence to long-distance road trip in a non-Tesla vehicle. So the $5/month is peanuts compared to the value I get from it.

It also allows for live data IIRC. They should be improving the iOS app over time as well. CarPlay integration just came out a month or two ago.

Looks like I won’t get my car before the trip after all. Even though the ship is due in 5 days before I leave, it seems it won’t be ready at the dealership before I go.

Bummer! Maybe pester them? They received mine at the end of the business day and had it ready in the morning. No issues whatsoever.

I texted them today about the expected ship arrival, and asked if it might be ready within three or four days after. He responded with several texts about how they usually take 2-3 days to prep the car once it reaches them, and I know it'll be a day in transit from the port, since the port is in Southern California and the dealer is in Northern.

I've been a bit pushy with them since the start, and so I'm the one customer who is actually tracking their car, too.

I may have to rethink my position once they move the SE out of beta status, maybe before. I'm just extremely against the software-as-a-service model, even though I am a professional software developer.

I'm a software tester, and I am firmly against the pervasive "let's try to get a monthly fee for every application a person wants to use". Just to take one ridiculous example, most wallpaper apps for IOS now want a monthly fee to change the photo on your phone screen. I'm happy to pay a one time price for software value (even a high price), but the on going stuff really adds up over time.

Yet if I can't get good road trip charging station data out of the Mini software and IOS options, I would consider ABPR. But I don't even have my car yet, so... :-)

I'm sorry to hear this. Here's hoping it works out faster.
